I understand that as part of Brexit, the UK (or what may remain of the UK) does not want to trade with the EU without any ability to add costs to goods, or demand the EU drop added costs to its goods. So there can no longer be just open borders where a container ship from the Netherlands docks and unloads .

And I understand that All of Ireland does not want to be split into two markets again. But why doesn't N. Ireland and the UK just do a deal that any goods coming from N. Ireland to the UK have to go through UK customs, and anything just coming from the EU gets one treatment, but any product actually arising in N. Ireland is a UK product?
