Ok, hate is a strong word. I don't like the way most people and places play Texas Hold-em.

I have had a regular poker playing group here at work for the past almost 30 years. We have dealer's choice and Texas hold-em is one of the options, one of the games we will play. The games we rotate through are:

7 Card Stud
5 Card Draw
High/Low Chicago
3 Card Burn
Acey Deucy
Texas Hold-em
Omaha
Black Jack

We have a maximum bid and raise limit.

I learned how to play Texas Hold-Em one day with my regular group. One of the guys learned how to play it and taught us. We didn't use the small and big open bid and we never ever heard of "All-In".

So I played Texas Hold-Em at a resort recently and was introduced to the "Casino" way of playing it. In a word: "Suckage".

There has to be some sort of restrictions on going "All-In". I've never played poker where you can run out of money and still be in the game. That isn't poker. We had some person go "all-in" before we even got to see the flop. Two cards and you're all in? Obvious bluff but the amount of money I would have to match made it not worth the risk. My $2 ante, bye bye. Suckage.

And what the fuck is up with this half blind and full blind shit? Just what is the purpose of that? I asked everyone at the table what the point of that was and the only thing anyone could come up with was "It's the way they do it in the casinos". Good answer Einstein.

I'm still way partial to Blackjack and 7 Card stud.

Hold 'em is my favorite because there's pretty much an even playing field. The bluff is the stuff. All in makes me grin. And so on...

The small bilnd/big blind is incentive to stay in the game with crappy down cards. If I'm the big blind and am not holding shit, it doesn't cost me any extra to stay in and see some up cards.

Those other games you mention are fun too, but I like to stick with Hold 'em.

then what is the purpose of the half-blind? You know if you stay in you will have to put the other half of the bet in.

And why have that? Why not make everyone buy in with an ante before any cards are dealt? Accomplishes the exact same thing.

I like Texas Hold-em the way we play it. Ante up, deal the cards, and if you don't have enough money to stay in the game you either fold or you reach into your wallet.

And, you can bluff just as well on any poker game except for Black Jack.

In tournaments there are blinds and antes

Why would there be both I wonder?

To force action and thin the field, numbnuts.

Well, we have the moron vote.

Dude, the Romper Room is that way=====>>>

Says the guy who is baffled by a player going all in before the flop, who doesn't know what the small blind is for, who thinks that bluffing is equal across all forms of poker, and who has to ask why they have blinds AND antes in tournament poker.

El oh fuggin' el!

:lmao:

Teevee Texas hold-em has fucked up just every good 7-card stud table across the country...They're nothing but geriatric wards anymore.

I've sat down and played some 7 card stud with the blue hairs a few times....not all that fun.

I do enjoy stud tho.
