[B]Ahmadinejad facing financial scandal[/B]
Fresh from elections which saw a huge shift in support to the political faction supporting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Majles Council accused president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday of complicity in his government's theft of billions of dollars worth of oil revenues. "Based on our estimates, the value of exported crude and condensates by the end of summer (March 21-Sept 22) amounted to $53.2 billion, from which $6.4 billion should have been deposited with country's Treasury funds," Mehr quoted a budget committee spokesman, Mehdi Fathias, as saying. "However, the Central Bank has only deposited $2.4 billion with the treasury." The scandal has already put Ahmadinejad and his supporters in a difficult political position, with one lawmaker even calling for the president's impeachment.
