Kansas has always had low unemployment, in January of 2010 it was the fourth lowest in the country. That doesn't change the fact that the results of Brownback's tax cuts have been a disaster.

The Kansas budget deficit may well be the result of excessive tax cuts, or it could also be the result of the same drag on the economy that the rest of the country is feeling. The drag of a combination of Obamanomics, Obamacare, and excessive regulation.

Without getting deep into all the factors affecting the economy of Kansas, your guess is as good as mine.

If I'm recalling it right, the larger state economies were the ones hit the hardest and the ones that lagged the most in recovery. It may be the mix of industries.



To really know what causal factors are requires rolling up one's sleeves and getting knee deep in the data.

One website says that Kansas has a large automotive manufacturing industry. How that has compared to Michigan might be revealing.

The percentage dedicated to agriculture probably has a big effect. People generally don't cut back on food as much as other goods. Then there is the effect of Fed programs food and ag programs.

2012-2014 has seen the economy for the rest of the country on the upswing (compared to 2009-2011). Kansas has gone in reverse direction. Their job growth is lagging the rest of the country and they went from surplus to deficit and have crushed funding for public schools.

The "only thing" that could explain the backtracking of Kansas compared to the rest of the country are state policies, especially the faltering budget, and especially on changes as steep as those enacted by Brownback.

If you want to live in total denial that what Brownback did wasn't destructive and it was "some other mystic force at work" then that's fine. But just to warn you the numbers really aren't on your side here.

Surely you realize that as employment gets closer to maximum, job growth has to slow down. Also, if Kansas was one of those states that wasn't hit as hard, it would have a UE that is better than the national average for no other reason except that they weren't hit as hard. Its always easy to be in front when you start in front.

State economies are complex and no single measure is going to serve as a measure. And all states are different s no single measure is going to reasonably compare them

Here's their (the Nazi Left) problem. Kansas sits there, out in the so-called" hinterlands and trucks along and succeeds. They are kind of the "salvation" to their own success in that people never consider Kansas as a place to live. The jerk offs and bums from both coasts stay away. That, in and of itself, lends itself to success for the state.

Kansas is a friend to business and business has responded (as in Texas) by locating their manufacturing and their corporate structure there AND, as a result, everyone prospers. If you're ever in Kansas, I recommend checking out Johnson county. They have been considered one the best places to raise a family since the 80s.

And that's what pisses off the left. They do it IN SPITE of the federal government. Just like Texas, Oklahoma, Iowa and the rest of the "hick" Midwest.
