How do we define American patriotism?

Which is the attitude of a patriot?

  • Things in America are great! This is the best place in the world to be!

  • This place is awful, it's going down the crapper, we've become a shithole country.

I notice that most people around here feel they're patriotic, but seem to think that most others aren't. So what does it actually mean to be a patriotic American?

Well if ya hav' ta ask..........A real American values traditions and history, borders and culture. A real patriotic American speaks in American English or are learning how. A real patriotic American stands for the Pledge of Allegiance, the American Flag and the Star Spangled Banner and know what those symbols mean to every American who has had to lay down their life for this country and gratitude to them from those who didn't have to do that because of them.

Patriotism use to mean something for me when I was a little kid and I was brainwashed into American thinking because that was all I knew. I had no idea then about other countries, their politics, their customs, their laws, their different viewpoints than the US. All I knew was Capitalism political thinking and had not as a little kid been exposed to Socialist or Communist political thinking. I can't say I am much into Patriotism as an adult, I think American Patriotism is very overrated. So we celebrate for gaining our independence over England and how awful England was to us. Looking back I think the celebration is really overrated. We celebrate for being free and having freedom other countries supposedly don't have, but are we really that much better off than other countries? I don't think so. Is America really that much better of a country than other countries? Are US Citizens really so much better off than citizens of other countries? I don't think so, we are better off than some countries... but are American citizens really better off than any other country on the face of this earth? I don't think so. Again Patriotism seems overrated. We are supposedly so much better than communist and socialist countries, our capitalism is so much better than their socialism. I just don't see it. Again I see Patriotism as overrated.

Don't get me wrong I think having Patriotism is nice, but I am not impressed with America. I think America can do so much better. Thankfully due to Biden and the Democrats I have been feeling more Patriotic and happy for America last couple years.

The US Constitution is very outdated and overrated. It is time to re-envision it.

The Constitution is not a machine. It really can't get 'outdated' it's about rules that humans have found to be best to live by in order to keep a cohesive population while allowing the greatest freedom from bureaucratic government. The 2nd amendment is at the top of the list because it basically bestows the power of life and death to every citizen more or less equally.

Putting your nation, and all her people before, and above all others, in all things.

End thread.

I find it very telling that nobody seems to have the chutzpah to cast a vote.
Because the choices are silly. Both are delusional. Patriotism is about loving your country, and fighting for its best interests. Not blind cheer leading.
