The short answer is that socialist believe other people screwed up their economic system. The communist in Russia were incapable of running their system. People like Stalin ruined it. It wasn't the system's fault at all because the system works.

This has always been the argument that kept this garbage alive. Do you know why hitler is considered the most evil man in the world? It was easier to blame hitler and the nazis for the evils of national socialism than to blame national socialism itself. This strategy kept it alive and even today the evils of nazism are pinned on the politicians. The political system itself has never ever been put on trial at all.
