House Republicans Pass $868 Mil in Cuts to WIC (women, infants, children)

But they leave farm subsidies unchanged.

I gotta say that while cuts need to be made to the budget, when Republicans cut food assistance to women, infants, and children while insisting on maintaining the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, it only serves to reinforce the image of Republicans' as being cold and heartless.

Seems pretty foolish to me. It makes what they tried to do to Medicare look positively altruistic in comparison.

A spending bill to fund the nation's food and farm programs would cut the Women, Infants and Children program, which offers food aid and educational support for low-income mothers and their children, by $868 million, or 13 percent. An international food assistance program that provides emergency aid and agricultural development would drop by more than $450 million, one-third of the program's budget. The legislation passed 217-203.

As they cut other programs, lawmakers rejected two proposals that would have saved money by lowering the maximum amount of money a farmer can receive in subsidies from the government. While fiscal conservatives and other critics of subsidies argued that they need to be cut as lawmakers look for ways to save, farm-state members said those cuts should be pushed back until Congress considers a new five-year farm bill next year.

Food Aid Cuts For Women, Children Passed By House Republicans

let me ask you this. when the democrats had the huge majority in the house, why didn't they cut those farm subsidies?

Well?

Probably because, depending on how it was implemented, it could lead to a rise in the cost of food (which is essentially a regressive tax), and it could also lead to a drop in consumers' discretionary spending which would subsequently negatively affect economic growth.

To those who claim that America is a Christian country, write your Congressperson to pass a budget Christ would vote for. My Bible talks about compassion for the poor, rich people giving away their possesions, and blessed are the peacemakers.

You are a fucking atheist and a liar too. So cryusaeffenriverwhydonchya?

I was sitting here thinking about W I C. Women Infants and Children protection. Orgiinally it meant protection for the weakest and most vulnerable in our population. Those who could not go out and make a living for the family. Today our society has changed. The male of the household may be out of work, but he isn't lowering himself to go out and accept just any job to protect his family... not when there are unemployment benefits to allow him to wait for that perfect job with the benefits to meet his expectations. So, as he gets accustomed to the soap operas or God forbid, the Anthony trial, our society changes.

Our society is changing from hard working Americans who used to walk those two miles to school and hand pick tomatoes during hard times, to those who lay on the couch with their Ipods waiting for their resume to make a hit. Let's extend those benefits again. Depression coming our way?

LOL.......Side splitter...
Meanwhile the Obama regime banned off shore oil drilling and allowed energy prices to soar.
The rise in energy prices which caused the price to get products to the marketplace caused the price of consumables to rise which is essentially the same damned regressive tax. Obama's mission accomplished.

I think that Jesus would have a hard time reconciling His words with the teachings of modern day "conservative Christians."
The extreme right Evangelicals and Pentecostals....Yes, I agree.
Those people are fire and brimstone wing nuts.
How people who claim to abide by the word of God and believers in the teachings of Christ can be so far off the radar is a mystery.

Please list and detail what precisely "is so far off the radar" concerning the word of God and evangelicals? You made the charge now back it up. This should be good..
For starters every Presidential election cycle, far right Christian Evangelicals and Pentecostals bring up the abortion issue. They try each time to make abortion a plank in the GOP presidential platform. Each time they also threaten to take their ball and go home. Each time they claim a voting bloc of millions who will not vote if they do not get what they want.
Each time a GOP president has an opportunity to nominate a SC Justice, the same issue rises. When the last three Bush Appointees and those of Reagan were nominated the religious right wanted a "litmus test" regarding abortion and Roe v Wade.
The bottom line is the religious right bases their voting choice on social issues.
Mainstream conservatives in general are moderate to right leaning on social issues and any
shove to the right on this causes the mainstream to rebuff the religious right.
Here's an example featuring the Late Rev Jerry Falwell..... It's rather long. May I suggest you skim for the bullet points..The View From Here: Religious Right
Here's an opinion piece that touches on the issue of mainstream conservatism and the religious far right....
The word here is "fundamentalism" .....anyway....
American Christian fundamentalist radicalism
The religious right for the most part has a monolithic view of the world. That is their religion and beliefs are the foundation by which our country exists. They believe we should live by that foundation. Most people reject the idea of living by religious dogma. They view it as an infringement on their freedom and liberty.
I am aware that our laws, traditions and culture are based on Judeo-Christian teachings and values. I agree with that.
However I reject the closed mindedness of the religious right. I reject it every bit as I do the far left progressive/socialist movement. Both are all about control.

Off shore drilling has not been banned. There are PLENTY of off shore riggs pumping oil as fast as they can.

One of the reasons that oil prices are rising even though American domestic consumption has declined is the plain fact that millions of people in places like China and India are now driving cars instead of riding bicycles like they did just a few years ago. Oil supply and demand economics is global, dude.

Educate yourself instead of just falling for propaganda which is meant to obfuscate instead of elucidate the issues.

Here, I'll educate you asshole. Obama banned oil drilling off the coast of Louisiana and put tens of thousands of Americans out of work and the cost of fuel is skyrocketing along with everything associated with that fuel such as groceries. spin it however you like but it's obie doodle's economy.. suck it up cause he's going to get hammered with it.

Whoopty shit, they cut a government welfare program by a mere 13%.
Everything needs to get cut in government spending. If you libs are in such outrage, then open up your checkbook and donate to them. Otherwise stop the faux outrage.

Yes I am, I don't believe we should be spending money we don't have and borrow to pay for it now and tax the future generations for our greedy needs.

You said Evangelicals were completely off concerning the bible.. all you've done above is given your view on the pro-life issue. You're entitled to your view but guess what?? So are Christians who support LIFE. It may not be important to YOU to stand for an unborn baby but for some of us, myself included, it's damn important and not YOU, nor anyone else will ever take that from me. I was listening to Mark Levin tonight talking about how Marxists hijacked the Dem party and how Liberal-Lites cloaked as Libertarians are trying to hijack the Republican party.. MOVE ALONG, not gonna happen. We are a pro-life party, PERIOD.

I'm still waiting for you to PROVE your charge about Evangelicals being completely off concerning the bible. Try to stay on topic.
