The reason they were laughing at him is twofold

1. Fossil fuels are used in just about everything. You walk into a grocery store and what do you see, everything is wrapped in plastic. Fossil fuels. How did the food grow? Fertilizer/fossil fuels. How did it get there? Fossil fuels. The cloths on your back, how were they made? Fossil fuels, etc.

2. Joe complains that oil companies are not investing in more drilling which makes prices remain high even though it takes years just to begin to drill for more oil as they invest a small fortune to do so. On top of that, why would they do all that to drill for about a year or so just to be told they can no longer drill for fossil fuels, or if democrats are correct, all the fossil fuels will be gone soon anyway?

But that is the wonderful thing about a cult. Not only does the philosophy need not make any sense, everyone following them is waiting for the order to commit suicide with their leaders on command. to drink the cool aid.
