Thousands of middle-class U.S. families are being forced to sleep on floors in public buildings because so many have lost their homes and jobs in the economic crisis.

These shelters were once the preserve of drug addicts and alcoholics but now normal Americans are having to bed down in halls and corridors as they have no other place to go.

An investigation has also found many from the Midwest are spending their benefits to stay in motels for up to ten days a month to avoid having every night on mattresses surrounded by dozens of strangers.

Experts say that these middle-class people are from 'the boom suburbs that have now gone bust'.

Tough times: This shelter in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is packed with middle-class families who have lost their homes

Hard times and getting harder.

And formerly middle class families, once they aren't middle class anymore, have to learn how to live poor.

Because if they don't learn the stategies that the poor have to survive in poverty and find shelter, there's always the next step below poor which is ABJECTLY DESTITUTE.

The HOMELESS are lower on the socio-economic scale than the merely poor.

Their's is not merely grinding poverty, that is to say living month by month, their fate is living in HAND TO MOUTH poverty.

That state of affairs is when you literally aren't sure where you next meal is coming from, or know where you'll sleep that night.

And several governors, like Rick Perry, used it for balancing state budget. Freddie went to Wall Street under the Bush admin when Wall Street was deregulated. Republicans controlled both houses.

You sit in front of the internet. Look it up. What is wrong with you?

I know. I actually held my nose and supported TARP... and, to a degree, I supported the stimulus.... had we spent that money well and with some intelligence, we would be in a much stronger position now.

But... as per usual.... we got shafted by our elected representatives and now, instead of holding them all to account (both sides) - most of us take the coward's way out and pretend the other guy did it.
