Many epidemiologists have been saying this all along, literally from the beginning, even before it officially broke containment, that if it was as contagious as they feared, with these stealthy components of asymptomatic transmission, which it is, this was literally the only answer.
People don't want to hear it. They'd rather hear we're going to 'stop it'.
Not happening.
At this point all these are doing is exacerbating the problem and will cause more severe spikes when people pop out of their hidey holes as it leaves more targets for the virus than otherwise.
Looking more and more like Sweden got it right. They'll take their shot to the nose and actually be on a real decline in a month if not less and we'll still be popping in and out of our holes like psychotic prairie dogs, working against ourselves by actually stretching out the timetable and slowing our progress to the point that resistance within the population will serve to slow it.
