Excellent question. I''d say two things, one, "Politics" here is pretty broad, and two, when a topic is misplaced the mods are pretty good about migrating it to where it properly belongs, so just take your best guess. Based on the little I see here and the intro it appears the dynamic is politics. Science/tech would be more for news of technical innovation, divorced from political considerations thereof. Of course the other consideration might be that Politics has a lot more traffic and can easily bury new content, so you may occasionally want to tailor your content for one or the other.
