Hamas Rejects Unprecedented Deal for Schalit

Israel is a project of the world's criminal class. There is nothing legal about it.

What are the clunkers? For what reason was this offer rejected?

I have found some different information on this. It appears that it was Netanyahu who did not go along with the deal.

It also appears that Hamas has provided a video of Gilad and another Israeli soldier which seems to infer he is alive.

Basically it looks like it is not true that this offer was made by Netanyahu. Sarkozy wrote a letter to Gilad who holds duel French and Israeli nationality and said he would be working for his release but it appears Netanyahu blocked the plan.

Shalit’s family did not attend the rally, but Gilad’s grandfather, Zvi Shalit, sent a letter that was read out loud. “The people involved talk to us from time to time, caress our heads, but my dear grandchild Gilad is still rotting away in the Hamas cellars having done nothing wrong, like a common criminal,” he wrote.

Zvi Shalit went on to write that Defense Minister Ehud Barak told him he clearly supports the deal proposed by Hamas, “but that (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu is opposed and cannot be persuaded otherwise.” He also criticized Netanyahu and said his inaction does more damage to the nation’s morale, especially young men about to enlist in the IDF, than the damage done by releasing prisoners. “I fear Netanyahu is waiting to hear, God forbid, that Gilad did not survive the conditions he was kept in, so he could pay a lesser price for his return,” he wrote.

Also on Saturday, Hamas’ Izedin al-Qassam armed wing said that Shalit would not be freed before the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas gave reporters a videotape showing two Israeli soldiers – Shalit and airman Ron Arad, who has been missing in Lebanon for two decades.

“We swear that he (Shalit) won’t see the light before our prisoners do,” read a sentence written in Arabic in the video.

I do agree with Sarkosy that it would do no one any harm to let Gilad to write to his family and let them know he is ok.

DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Political bureau member of Hamas Saleh Al-Aruri has charged that the German mediator in the prisoners’ exchange deal between his movement and Israel had lacked integrity.

He explained in a statement to a website on Thursday that the mediator adopted all Israeli conditions for the swap deal, which were very harsh and unfair, while he should have tried to ease those conditions in order to facilitate conclusion of the deal.

Aruri said that the Israeli offer stipulated among other things excluding certain names, delaying release of others for many years, and deporting some of the released prisoners.

Aruri: German mediator was not honest

Arabs have a peculiar definition of integrity, ie. anything not pro-arab or, at least, level, lacks integrity, of course.

Go on an Arab board.
Everything (and anything) they don't like is "zionist propaganda"

A term adopted by Leftists and anti-semites on Western boards now.

Israel has approximately 10,000 Arabs in its prisons.

The Zionists should offer to free all of them for the IDF soldier if they are serious.

Israel should empty its jails for 1 man? seems to me the Palestinians themselves view Israeli life as more valuable than their own, otherwise they wouldn't be asking so much for just 1 Israeli Soldier.

Hamas prisoner benefits still not... JPost - Diplomacy & Politics
Prison Services: Benefits remain to maintain peace;
Hotovely: Schalit remains in captivity, while Hamas men stay in a five-star hotel.

Hamas inmates continue to get optional benefits in prison, despite Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s declared change in policy,
Prisons Service officials told the Knesset Interior Committee on Wednesday.

Last month, Netanyahu announced that he would revoke prisoners’ privileges in order to pressure Hamas to release kidnapped soldier Gilad Schalit.
However, the Hamas men may still be Visited by their families, watch Cable television and buy products in the prison Canteen, including daily Newspapers.

Hamas official expresses hope for Schalit ne... JPost - Headlines

A senior Hamas official said on Wednesday that his movement expects "positive developments" in efforts to achieve a prisoner swap with Israel in return for IDF soldier Gilad Schalit.
Musa Abu Marzouk, deputy head of the Damascus-based Hamas "political bureau," said that his optimism was based on "internal pressure" on the Israeli government and changes in the makeup of the mediating team.
Abu Marzouk's remarks were published in the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper.

Let's hope. They have all been in prison too long.

The price for Shalit is not negotiable. You would think that Israel would have figured that out by now.
