Meanwhile back in reality, we have the most guns of any civilization ever. We should have zero crime if what the OP said was remotely true. Instead...30,000 gun deaths a year.

Almost all of whom are either suicides, or criminals being killed by other criminals. Since suicide isn't illegal those numbers should come out of your total. 62% of gun deaths are suicide so take 18,600 out of your total. Probably 95 % of the remainder are criminal on criminal so take out another 10,830 for that. that leaves only 1,010 gun deaths and many of those are legitime self-defense or the defense of others.

Everyone in jail today was a law abiding citizen..until they weren`t. A lot of suicides are impulsive acts and if a gun wasn`t handy they would`ve thought about it for a while instead of taking the cowardly way out.

That's bullshit. It takes a long time and numerous caught crimes for a criminal to wind up in jail. So very few people in jail or prison were law abiding prior to the crime that got them sent up the river. And based upon stats for other countries where guns aren't readily available, suicides aren't deterred by lack of guns. Suicide isn't always a cowardly way out. Often it's a rational alternative to a long, painful, drawn-out death due to disease.
