Do you think that PXs and Commissaries make money?

I can tell you they do not. After I retired from the Marines I spent a bit under 2 years as the Produce Manager for a Commissary. Went there after I left WalMart and before I started my current job.

The first month I did our monthly inventory with the store manager and at the end of it I was told "you made too much money", words I had never heard while working at WalMart that is for sure. I was not allowed to have more than 5 percent plus or minus at the end of the month. I was told we were not there to make money but to provide a service to the member of the Military that shopped there. And this was just on the cost of the produce, this did not include any labor which was not factored into the equation at all.

Who would have ever thought that government run grocery stores would be horrible and lose money? Yet another example of the left's embrace of socialism. Let's go Chicago! Set that goal of only losing 100K per year. It's good to set goals.

Maybe Erie's erstwhile government grocers didn't realize that—unlike with other government services—grocery stores are subject to competition. Bummer.

But city officials "aren't giving up," they tell the Journal. Meanwhile, the store's manager says the "goal" is to lose only $100,000 this year.

Why did you bring that up? Are you saying that Commissaries and PXs make money? If so, why doesn't this store make money and sell at cheaper prices? If not, why mention them?

And there's the problem with government run anything. There is no incentive to actually do things the most efficient way possible, because you can just print or borrow more money if you need it.

We are eventually heading to a Great Depression that will make 1930 look like a booming economy. I don't know whether we are inches away from that now or still a few months or years away. But, forget about global warming destroying the planet, if we and the world do not get our financial acts together, we will be in for a world of hurt.

How much do commissaries buy and sell at cost and it is cheaper but it seems Chicago can’t even do that, then they are losing to Walmart and Dollar Tree on top of everything else. Funny how Walmart and Dollar Tree generate millions in profits but this government run store hasa goal of losing money.

Commissaries do not make money, they are by law not allowed to.

The PX makes money but it is returned to the MWR fund for the base it is on

They do not make money, they are not even allowed to make money
