Business pays 6.2% and the worker pays 6.2%. Under Obama's payroll tax plan, workers only paid 4.2%.
But the rate is capped at around 105,000, meaning only 6.2% on 105,000. That means the rich pay almost nothing relative to their income. But for the middle class, how many make over 105,000? No one? Few? Very few?
It's another attack on the Middle Class by the Republican leadership. And what the fuck is wrong with their base. Either they are masochists or stupid. Because you can bet all these USMB Republicans are NOT rich. Believe it.
No one even seems to be talking about what the payroll tax actually does.
Republicans, it IS a tax increase on the Middle Class. A group of people many right wingers say "doesn't exist". I guess that's the way they pander to the rich. Pretending the middle class doesn't exist and the poor aren't really poor.
I get to pay the ENTIRE 12.4% RDean.. Got some relief for me??
I'll talk about what the payroll tax is for.. FDR sold Soc Sec as a UNIVERSAL program for ALL workers that would funded by never ever more than 4% of payroll amount. That means that CURRENT workers pay retirement benefits to retirees.. UNIVERSAL -- means it benefits everybody.. NOT just the poorer workers..
YOU are the one that wants to blow up the original UNIVERSAL intent of these programs by turning them into redistribution. And Pelosi/Reid/Obama should have kept their paws OUT of the payroll tax till.. They are STEALING from the Soc Sec fund and causing it to go negative YEARS before the projected date of insolvency. They can no longer steal the SURPLUS -- so now they are mucking with the premiums used to keep those programs on life support at the worst possible time.
If you renege on the UNIVERSAL concept by insisting on skimming the premiums needed to sustain those funds and raising the cap so that only a FEW actually recieve a lifetime benefit from Soc Sec -- the American public will simply tell you to go to HELL the next time you want ANOTHER UNIVERSAL program like healthcare...
