GOP should call Obama's bluff on "Tax the rich"

How about this for a strategy:

GOP says "OK President Obama. We'll tax the rich. Tax the shit outta them. You say we obstruct you? Ok. You say the rich dont pay their "fair" share? Ok. Americans....listen to this. We, the GOP, will trust President Obama on this. It's HIS to own. We'll vote for his big tax hike on the rich. We'll trust HIS leadership and ideals on this. We'll pass this immediately. We'll see the results in the economy and debt by next November."

Go ahead. Pass it. Hike taxes on the rich, right now. See what happens. Let Obama run on the results of it, not the idea of it.

I suspect he'd shit his pants when he realizes he'll have to run on the results.

Any tax out of them would be nice.

Study says most corporations pay no U.S. income taxes | Reuters

Most U.S. and foreign corporations doing business in the United States avoid paying any federal income taxes, despite trillions of dollars worth of sales, a government study released on Tuesday said.

No the Bush Tax cuts have expired, they are no longer in place. They are now the 0bama tax cuts, slight of hand and more lies.

Keep laughing, it's quite funny.

Congress votes to extend Bush-era tax cuts until '12

Congress approved the most significant tax bill in nearly a decade late Thursday, overcoming liberal resistance to continue for two more years tax breaks enacted under president George W. Bush and to provide a fresh boost of federal support to the tepid economic recovery.

The package, brokered by President Obama and Republican leaders in the wake of the November elections, angered many Democrats, who have long argued that the Bush tax cuts were skewed to benefit the wealthy. But their last-minute campaign to scale back the bill's benefits for taxpayers at the highest income levels failed, and the House passed the measure 277 to 148, with 112 Democrats and 36 Republicans voting "no."

"This bill, the president of the United States believes and I believe, will have a positive effect on the economy," said House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.). "I will vote for this bill because I don't want to see middle-income working people in America get a tax increase, because I think that will be a depressant on an economy that needs to be lifted up."

The $858 billion package now goes to the White House. With his signature, expected as soon as Friday, Obama will prevent taxes from rising on New Year's Day for virtually every American household. The measure also will guarantee unemployed workers in hard-hit states up to 99 weeks of jobless benefits through the end of next year. And it will create major new incentives for business and consumer spending in 2011, including a two-percentage-point reduction in the Social Security payroll tax that would let workers keep as much as $2,136.

The package breezed through the Senate earlier this week on a vote of 81 to 19, giving Obama his strongest bipartisan victory on a major initiative since he took office. Opposition in the House crumpled in the face of that overwhelming showing, though House liberals insisted on offering an alternative that would levy a higher tax on estates than the Obama-GOP compromise will impose. That effort failed shortly before midnight, 194 to 233.

its quite simple, Bush signed the law. Obama mealy allowed it not to expire.

You need to quit rewriting history, 0bama signed the extension of those tax cuts, he owns it now.

Why did he do that?

Do you recall what price he extracted from the GOP for signing that extention?

So when he was talking in front of a podium about how important it was to get rid of the Bush tax cuts was that pandering or lying?

Kinda like when Al Gore was screaming against Bush's Patriot Act, now that it's Obama's, no democrat cares.

12 to 15 different polls show the American Public agrees with Obama on this topic, some are in the 70% area.

also, the GOP needs to tell ME why this grover Norquist fells has so much power w/o being elected by WE THE PEOPLE.

Guys, this is a no briner, the close to 3 out of 4 Americans want a better tax structure for the rich. the writing is on the wall GOP. Now do as you were elected to do and govern for and by the people.

LOL Of course the polls show some Americans are for raising SOMEBODY elses taxes.

Nothing new there.

Ask em if they want theirs raised and see what you get for an answer.
72% think the wealthy should share more of the tax burden. Regardless of whether the rich should pay more or not, the public believes they should. This issue is going to be a millstone around the neck of the next GOP candidate.

Keeping taxes low for the rich, destroying unions, cutting unemployment compensation, phasing out medicare, and fighting all legislation to create jobs are not going to play well in 2012 with Americans looking for a job or worried about keeping one.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. Many have forgotten that Barack Obama didn't just defeat John McCain...he slaughtered him. 60 something to 40 something percent. Talk about a mandate.

Let's see...the young vote, the senior vote, the minorities, Hispanics, etc. Exactly which of these contingincies do they think is suddenly going to vote for that bunch of bible thumping clowns who believe the universe was created in six days about 6,000 years ago?

Wrong, it's what needs to be done. On top of that, all of the Bush Tax Cuts need to come to an end. As revenues increase, some of that money can be put into infrastructure spending. What many conservatives don't understand is that a great deal of government spending ends up in the private sector. Cutting that spending will take money out of the private sector and slow growth. While building a bridge to nowhere does not make sense, it does employ people and put money into the economy. We just need to concentrate on the bridges to somewhere rather than the ones to nowhere. There is good government spending and bad government spending.

you know what asshole? we pay high gasoline taxes to take care of your fucking "infrastructure spending" wtf happened to all that money?

Yes but if they pass the tax and it hurts the economy (like it will) is that fair to the next President? Not to mention the people that are taxed and all the people that will lose work...

ALL of it winds up in the private sector!

The government is not the three-headed money-eating ogre that Republicans keep having their moms check under the bed for! It's simply an aggregate of the citizens. Transfer payments, entitlements, departments, military - EVERY PENNY goes back into the public sector.

Yeah...and defense spending is the biggest source of waste in the history of mankind. We have spent billions of dollars on an F-22 which has never been used other than for demostrations. Both parties are scared stiff of the Pentagon. They would rather take a dump in the floor of the first national bank at noon than to look weak on defense. If we're going to be a conquering empire we have to show our might...no matter how much poverty or illness develops in our ordinary ranks.

It's like Christians in this country. They go to church for an hour and a half a week, drop off their money to pay the preacher and his staff, maintain the building, pay for expensive stained glass, mahagony pews, steeples, musical instruments and sound systems, etc. while nearly a billion in this world, mostly children are starving or suffering from mal nutrition. The idea that they are supporting the poor is an illusion...promoted by guess who? The church.

Obama put his name on it because that's what he wanted. It's a talking point, a soundbite. Obama can still run off his promise to not extend the Bush ear tax cuts, this time, for realz... maybe...

It's like the wars, Obama the peace president that starts new wars and expands old wars. Obama’s entire Presidency is based off playing politics while never getting anything meaningful done.

I repeat!!

Barack Obama slaughtered John McCain's arse. He had seniors, young folks, Blacks, Hispanics, educators, union members, etc. backing his play and won 60 something to 40 something percent. Since those folks have watched this Republican congress block every single thing he's tried to do for them...just why in the hell do you think one of the bible thumping eight can do any better than John McCain?

Is it being too pedantic to point out that it can't be 60 something to 40 something - that would be 100 and something?
Yeah, youre right, it probably is...as you were..

Well for starters Ron Paul is the anti McCain and McCain and Obama are pretty much equal...

Obamas bitch tax warfare is DOA. Have no worries

Doesn't he just have to let the Bush tax cuts expire? Are the Republicans willing to see taxes go up on everyone? Don't see how that works for them. :doubt:

That is what should be done, plain and simple. Pretty much everyone's taxes would go up, but the fact is that the wealthy would get hit for the most. We need more revenue, and while the wealthy need to be contributing more, it doesn't mean they should be the only ones contributing more.

GOP shouldn't do anything but sit back and let obama ruin himself between now and 2012. America is watching, and only the most dumbass obama supporters are still with him, which is proven by some on this board.

So whether you support or oppose the idea, understand it's not going to happen.

purrty much, were screwed either way. either the GOP starts to govern and help us get out of this hole now or the point of no return is near. If the GOP wins the Presidency, expect the Dems to obstruct early and often. And why not, its all the GOP did. A new precedence has been set, is that what we want?
Expect that and you will be bitterly disappointed. The Dems are pansies. They will go along with the GOP as they always do.

The GOP would never go along with it because they know it would help the economy, and an improving economy is the last thing they want. That's why they have been obstructing it all along!!!

Excellent question.

I can tell you what happened in Maine, and I suspect much the same thing happened in other states, too.

When the states get their share of the taxes on gasoline, they PISS IT AWAY on things other than repair and maintainance of the roads and bridges.

For example DOT in Maine purchsed a swell Island on the off chance that one day they might be able to economically justify building a port in Searsport.

Now the fact that they ALREADY have a port here that is operating at about 10% capacity made no difference.
