The states rights argument is a highly selective one for republicans, always has been since the southern dixiecrats imported it into the GOP.

Not that this approach really acknowledges the truth, but the right to keep and bear arms is not an issue of state rights, or of federal rights, but of THE PEOPLE'S rights. It says so, right there in the Second Amendment: “…the right of the people…shall not be infringed.” Neither the states nor the federal government have even the faintest vestige of legitimate authority to interfere with this right.
