GOP-led Senate passing bills at rate not seen in decades

The current Republican establishment is one of the least effective party mechanisms in history. They had a huge mandate to stop the worst of Obama, but refused to stand for anything and gave away the store. They talked big, then every time Obama put on his frowny face and shook his finger they got scared and gave him what he wanted. That is precisely why Trump is being successful and scaring the crap out of them. Trump would be nowhere if they had acted like an opposition party instead of lap dogs.

The best of all worlds is for truly opposing forces to own opposing branches of government. That way, little gets done and we actually have a stable environment to live in.

They gave away nothing....Obama just took it

Republican reluctance to even meet with the President meant they got NOTHING in their agenda.......nothing in healthcare, no tax cuts, lost same sex marriage, no Keystone,
Nah, that was Obama's arrogance from the beginning when he told them to sit in the back of the bus and that he wanted his people to bring a gun to a knife fight. Naturally, Obama couldn't imagine that in 2 years time his party would be reduced to long-term minority status in congress.

Obama was President
Means that if Republicans wanted any of their agenda they would have to work with him. They refused and got NOTHING

Obama got Obamacare, clean energy, ended Bush tax cuts, Iran nuclear deal, recognition of Cuba, same sex marriage

Republicans wanted to kill Obamacare, more tax cuts, more oil drilling, Keystone, kill Planned Parenthood....they got NOTHING to show for eight years

Obama won on every major issue
Right, because they were scared to oppose him, even though given the mandate to do so.
Actually, the opposite was true

Rightwing media made it impossible for republicans to negotiate with Obama. It even reached the point where they were afraid to even have their picture taken with him
Wow, they were so strongly opposed to Obama that they gave him what he wanted. Now that's saying something. See, you fell for their rhetoric. They talked a big game then folded before they actually took the field.

Republicans did not give Obama anything...he took it

Republicans continually engaged in "all or nothing" power plays with the President and ended up with nothing

When they have the majority in the House and Senate, Obama gets nothing if they don't let him have it, because they can simply refuse to pay for it. They were elected on the promise that they would oppose Obama's worst, and rolled over as soon as they assumed office. So, you are wrong. They gave him what he wanted.

Actually, they tried that "we won't pay for it" ploy and shut down Government
Obama slapped them in the face and forced them to back down. Cost the taxpayer $26 billion

It wasn't that Republicans were too soft in dealing with Obama, they just didn't have a strong enough hand. Rather than working what you are capable of achieving, Republicans made grand promises to their voters and were unable to deliver

Yes, I remember when Reid and Obama temporarily slowed down part of the government even though the House offered to pay for all but one program. They then tried to maximize the pain just to make their point. The Republicans naturally folded instead of publicly ramming through bill after bill paying for everything under the sun and forcing Obama and Reid to explain why they were blocking things that people wanted.

With the Government Shutdown, Republicans once again overplayed a weak hand and Obama made them pay the price

They had no exit strategy

They also had no confidence in their beliefs. They were elected on an opposition platform and refused to capitalize on it. They could have easily painted Reid and Obama as the obstructionists they were by going on camera night after night, showing the bills they were passing to pay for everything in the budget, but did not. They were weak and folded.

I see the Washington Times does not mention a single significant bill

At least any bills more important than filling a Supreme Court vacancy or preventing those on the no fly list from buying guns

Check ou Search GovTrack.us

Which bill are you most proud of?
The one that cuts benefits for veterans was a good GOP bill.
Then the one that cuts school lunches for children.
Then there's the bill that gave sitting Republicans in congress millions in subsidies. It was called the "Farm Bill".

Republicans have so much to be proud of.

It is what happens when you add "kill Obamacare" to evry bit of Republican legislation

Republicans once again failed

Not because they were not tough enough with Obama but because they didn't have the horses to get their demands

It is what happens when you take compromise off the table.....you generally lose

Hey Freewill, do you know who this is?

Of course they did. They had the option of funding everything in the budget except for one thing, and they refused to do so. They also turned around and did everything they could to extract the maximum pain for the citizens.

Continuing resolution means government continues at existing funding levels. If Republicans want to add or cut something out they are provided the budget process to do so

Once government is shut down, only essential functions are allowed to operate....parks are not essential functions

Sure, except that they tried to shut down things they had no authority over, all to maximize the inconvenience to the citizens. Actually, only about 17% of the government actually stopped. Most of it kept right on going. The House was ready to fund the entire government save for one program, but Reid and Obama blocked everything instead. They temporarily slowed down government (The other dirty little secret is that no one actually lost any wages. They retroactively got any pay they missed).

How was the public inconvenienced?

nonessential parks were shut down while government healthcare, social security payments, education was maintained

If Republicans wanted to defund Obamacare ( essential function) they could have passed a budget that did so

The Republican temper tantrum wasted $26 billion

Things were shut down that required little to no expense to keep open. In several cases they spent more keeping people out than they would have just leaving them open. That is democrats maximizing pain and inconvenience. Oh, Reid and Obama made sure of that.

Think about what you're saying. By admitting that government functions are non-essential, you are saying that they are good candidates for slashing from a bloated budget drowning in a sea of red ink.

Nonessential functions get shut down. Republicans voted unanimously for it

Sorry, but healthcare, education, social security payments are essential

Parks are not

Which means they are expendable and could be sold off to reduce government overspending. Basically, what you're saying is that a government "shutdown" is anything but. In fact, it is a publicity stunt regularly held by democrats for political hit points.
