Breaking with congressional Republicans, GOP governors back Obama on stimulus plan -- Courant.com

This past week the bipartisan National Governors Association called on Congress to quickly pass the plan.

"States are facing fiscal conditions not seen since the Great Depression — anticipated budget shortfalls are expected in excess of $200 billion," the NGA statement said. "Governors ... support several key elements of the bill critical to states-increased federal support for Medicaid and K-12 and higher education; investment in the nation's infrastructure; and tax provisions to spur investment."

Looks like the Prty has a big rift.

Lets not forget where Republican presidents scome from, the governers.

Not really all that surprising. They want the money from the "stimulus" for their state, that way they can put off being fiscally responsible a little while longer.

Exactly. They don't oppose it on ideological grounds, or even based upon any evidence. They just want the money, and they are willing to sell out their state itself to get it.

Election is not based upon approval ratings or objective likeability. It is based upon comparisons to the other guys.

It sure seems to sugest they have been fiscally irresponsible which would mean they helped create this problem.

Now if they created it , dont want to be fiscally responsible and have gotted the R vote by lying about being fiscally responsible and now will go against the party line get some money even though it will hurt the country arent you saying they are a pack of taintwallows?

Or maybe, just maybe they are the ones being responsible and the Rs who created this problem by not re regulating the industry that did this to us are the taintwallows?

I don't think we're able to have an intelligent discussion about this because your partisanship is blinding you.

So Repudlicans are just as greedy for tax dollars as Dimocrats.

this is news how???

Stimulus money should only be spent in Congressional districts whose Congressperson voted for the package.

This is some of the funniest shit ever!

Sarah Palin Lobbying on BEHALF of Obama's Stimulus Bill

GOP governors press Congress to pass stimulus bill

NEW YORK (AP) — Most Republican governors have broken with their GOP colleagues in Congress and are pushing for passage of President Barack Obama's economic aid plan that would send billions to states for education, public works and health care.

Their state treasuries drained by the financial crisis, governors would welcome the money from Capitol Hill, where GOP lawmakers are more skeptical of Obama's spending priorities.

The 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, planned to meet in Washington this weekend with Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and other senators to press for her state's share of the package.

proof of pork, no surprise there. So when does the Senate show they have brass and deny?

There are only 680,000 people in Alaska, and they get more federal money per capita than any other state despite having huge tax revenues from oil companies.

Alaska is a welfare queen.

So....even Republicans support this measure. The GOPers that don't support it understand it will pass anyway. They just want to play Fiscal Conservatives for the tv cameras and so Rush Limpdick will not bash them on the radio
