Police used bicycles to block protesters Saturday night from gathering close to the Charlotte Convention Center, the site of the convention. The Secret Service set up a perimeter, news outlets reported.

Don't they always "become" violent? If not in this city, it will only because of the clear resolve of the lawful armed forces maintaining law and order.
