After watching goose-stepping North Koreans on the tv news a lot lately, I am reminded that American troops all march like the Scottish do, without goose stepping:

 
The funniest marching I've ever seen was that video that showed the nightly closing of the border between Pakistan and India...

 
I read somewhere that goose-step marching originated with Ancient Roman legions for the purpose of symbolically marching over enemy corpses on a battlefield. Hitler's Third Reich adopted several of the Romans' military postures and traditions, the extended right arm salute is another.
