Nice site with 'real-time' stats on energy and other global statistics. According to it, there's 40 years of oil left, 160 years of natural gas. Dunno how accurate that is. My brother works at various energy facilities and seemed to reject the figures. Shrug.

The higher the price of energy, the more reserves we have in the fossil fuel sector. At 100 dollars a barrel, there is a very much larger recoverable reserve than at 20 dollars a barrel. At 500 dollars a barrel, very much larger reserves yet. However, at some point you cross a line at which transportation will find some other way to power what is needed. And the consumer stops consuming, or at least, consuming that product.
