Glenn Beck: "We Have To Have" A Balanced Budget Amendment "Or We Don't Survive"

How many would support a balanced budget amendment that included mandatory tax increases to cover any budget shortfall?

Psssst....its called make cuts in the budgets if there are shortfalls. That's the whole point.:eusa_shhh:

Just the answer I expected

Republicans love knee jerk legislation but are unwilling to address the consequences of that legislation. Not all spending is discretionary. You want to be a tough guy on debt? Than address both spending AND revenue

The Republican solution of attacking debt by cutting programs that help struggling Americans while protecting what the wealthy have to contribute shows the it true colors

Cutting military expenditure would be great.

This country was never meant to have a military capable of invading and conquering other nations.

That's NOT DEFENSE.

You always here them mention TARP but seldom mention why it was necessary. Government "got out of the way" of the high rollers. They took huge risks..and left the tax payer holding the bag. It's the same as pork. It's necessary spending when it's their districts..pork for everyone else.

It's amazing really.

They don't think people are paying attention to their absurd claims.

Everything they are talking about "trying" was tried only a few short years ago with disasterous results.

Is the Balanced Budget Amendment statement the newest talking point for the year?

Will it replace the repeal "Obamacare" talking point?

Yup, Glenn Beck is now promoting the balanced budget amendment with the rest of our Washington Establishment media, but what section of the proposed balanced budget amendment actually requires Congress to balance the annual budget when Congress borrows during the course of a fiscal year to meet its expenses? Answer: nothing in the proposal (H.J.RES.1 or S.J.RES.5) requires Congress to “balance the budget” when Congress borrows during the course of a fiscal year to meet its expenses. As a matter of fact, the ‘balanced budget amendment” would actually make it constitutional for Congress to not balanced the federal budget! Why Beck is promoting the fraud is very troubling, and he even has guest on to give the phony talking points promoting the amendment, and ignores giving the proposed “balanced budget amendment” a critical look. Seems Beck has joined the Establishment in promoting this fraudulent balanced budget amendment thing.

Hey Glenn Beck, what provision in the balanced budget amendment actually requires Congress to balance the annual budget when Congress borrows during the course of a fiscal year to meet its expenses? And if non exists, why do you call it a “balanced budget amendment”?

JWK

Our federal government personifies a living creature, a predator: it grows, it multiplies, it protects itself, it feeds on those it can defeat, and does everything to expand its powers and flourish, even at the expense of enslaving a nation’s entire population.
Well, don't be too quick on him. Remember, he was for TARP for about 3 days till he realized what a massive mistake it would be (and was) and then reversed himself.

The man is honest in that regard.

It is also clear now why the fed kept the interest rate so low while Bush was president.
to make the Bush debt look lower than it was.

Honest and Glen Beck go together like Milk and Lemon Juice.

In as..they don't.

Among its many failings would be such an amendment’s ‘emergency’ provisions. All contingencies would need to be enumerated and given the unpredictable nature of life the list could never be inclusive. ‘In time of war,’ for example, could include almost any emergency or crisis involving violence and an armed response, just as the president has declared Libya ‘not a war.’ Indeed, some conservatives here have declared illegal immigrants crossing into the US an ‘act of war.’

Which is just amazing.

On a daily basis..they dilute government, semantics, our language and Lexicon with nonsense..

They are truly looking for a break down in civilization.

Ahhh the 'emergency' loophole. Yes yes. The great excuse as to why we can't have a balanced budget.

We all have to keep a budget or at least live within our means too and emergencies happen. The car breaks down. Water pipe breaks. Furnace goes out. Break an arm. What do we do then? Either dip into what savings we have, or... OR... we set up a payment plan if we can, and possibly take out a loan or pay by credit.

BUT... after the crisis is over... we don't continue to SPEND like we're in an emergency!!! We pay off our debt over time, do without to get it done faster and then get back to life as normal, living within our means as they were pre-accident!

Why is it so hard to see the government MUST do the same thing? Hmmm?

Glenn Beck has supported a balanced budget amendment for quite some time.
And I highly doubt he supports a balanced budget amendment that wouldn't balance the budget. Especially considering this is one of his biggest issues.

And I would hardly call it a talking point. It's something we need to discuss. I am not sure if I support one yet, (I'd have to see the language of the amendment) but we need to do something to check out politicians power over us.

Give us some evidence of his support during the Bush years....then maybe I'll believe you.

Did I miss your evidence?

Glenn Beck is a addict/alchoholic bipolar Mormon with delusions of grandure and a pent up mean streak that expresses itself in his uncontrolled passive agressive ventings.

Anyone who likes him is brain damaged, naive, vulnerable to pseudo prophetic garbage, or just using his revisionist Republican propaganda with full knowlege of it's lack of validity.

OK. Raise taxes on the 45% of the country that doesn't pay any.

Glad we can agree on raising taxes.

Obama is Commander-in-Chief. Last I looked he isn't getting us out of any wars. In fact, he is getting us into new ones.
