The majority doesn't want gay marriage. The politicians passed a law imposing it on an willing population. Although some polls did show that a majority supported same sex marriage, those polls were wrong OR, the minority that opposed same sex marriage was significant enough to fight back. Which they are doing. There is no majority supporting same sex couple adoptions. So it is funny how that majority thing works, isn't it?

Same-sex Civil Marriage laws have no impact on a bakery choosing to service customers or not. The issue is Public Accommodation laws, this mythical bakery (since you haven't posted a link to the story) would have also violated the law if they had refused to bake a cake for an interracial couple, a black (or white couple), or an interfaith couple.

There are no Same-sex Civil Marriages in Oregon, since 2004 the Oregon Constitution has said "It is the policy of Oregon, and its political subdivisions, that only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or legally recognized as a marriage." Therefore the issue isn't Same-sex Civil Marriage, which is between the State and the couple, the problem is Public Accommodation laws and that the baker refused services based on sexual orientation offered to the general public.

Same with the "famous" New Mexico photographer, there is not Same-sex Civil Marriage in New Mexico, however the photographer refused to provide services to a lesbian couple in violation of that States Public Accommodation laws.


(As I've previously stated, such laws as they apply to private businesses should be repealed. But the reality is the issues raised are not a function of Civil Marriage.

By the way, gay marriage was clearly presented in Hollande's election manifesto in 2012. Everybody knew it. Including the 90% of french muslims who voted for socialist Hollande in the second round. It does not mean that 90% of french muslims support gay marriage. Not at all
