France intervenes against 'terrorists'

First we built the Panama Canal, then we saved their butts in WW1 & WW2, then we took away the Suez Canal and kicked ass in Viet Nam. No wonder they resent us.

Mali is a former French colony that France still exploits for it's natural resources.

The Mali people want the French to get out and stay out.

The so called terrorists are just Mali patriots trying take back their country from the foreign occupiers.

Where can we begin to explain how wrong such thinking is?
In the 1950's the French were finally defeated in a small asian country called Vietnam.

So we stepped in to continue their colonial occupation and prop up the French puppet dictator government.

And we all know how that turned out.

Now are you suggesting we repeat this same historical disaster in Mali ??

You support murderers and rapists. They cut off peoples limbs , they blind girls for looking for school, they forbid Girls from going to school and from working. And you support them.... Remind me again how you want the same laws here you piece of human filth.

Condi Rice supports Murderers and Rapists.

Which side are YOU on RGS? It's not clear to me.

The way the US went to war for oil?

We did not do that.

then what did we go to iraq for?

Because saddam had made his country one of the chief sources of unrest, corruption, and hatred in a region of the world where unrest, corruption, and hatred had been proven to be a real and immediate threat to the security of The United States. After more than 12 years of escalating attacks and pretending the problem would just go away, we were forced to reckon with a reality that was too costly to avoid any longer.

France has unilaterally sent forces into war-torn Mali with the intent of defending democracy there. In fighting so far, they have been very successful with a minimum of casualties.

It seems popular among ill-informed people that France and the French are somehow cowards. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I agree! Well done France! :clap2:

Fighting terrorists is a noble cause and Vive La France! :D

Didn't the surrender monkeys criticize the US for sending forces to war-torn Vietnam with the intent of defending democracy?

What scathing criticism! So cutting and so original! Surrender monkeys; how could a mind be so brilliant as to create that term?

Didn't half the US criticize the US for its actions in Vietnam? Are you criticizing the French for being correct?

What drivel! This shows an ignorance of history and facts too long to correct.

The French do not resent the US. Anyone who knows France knows this. Those who do not know France state stupid things about it.

France has a love/hate view of the US. A significant number of the older generation appreciate what the US contributed, allowing France to remain sovereign; however deeply resent the incursion of American culture into French life (ie: fast food restaurants, music, language...). But also that Americans had become more influential in world politics than the French. Note: the French sadly continue to believe in their country as a world power and key player - vestiges of Louis XIV and Napoleon.

Younger French love the movies, music, clothes and a host of other pieces of Americana but also view the US as the source of many of the worlds problems. Young or old, they both express a great distaste for America, while envying the life that many Americans lead.

Sadly, today the average Frenchman is not as well educated as the generation that grew up in the fifties and sixties. Many have grown up on re-runs of Starsky and Hutch; not reading great works of literature. French mothers dream of their children becoming a 'fonctionnaire', with a 30 hour work week, 6 weeks paid vacation, and early retirement. The French still aspire to greatness but have little hope to achieving their dream. With Mali they however demonstrate a continuing love of theater. So long live Jerry Lewis and the French "poseur".

Again, something close to information, yet far from accurate.
Today's Frenchperson is not as well educated? What about Americans? They can't even find Iraq on a world map, and some not even the US!
French workers are number two in per capita productivity in the world, just behind the US. The 35 hour week is standard, but many work much more.
No one mentions Jerry Lewis anymore (that is , like, SO sixties!).
They are military leaders in Europe. You want the Germans everywhere (again)?
The biggest differences between France and the US revolve around approaches to society. The French take a more militant view of solidarity and consider health care part of what a citizen can expect. The system works very well.
Drop the old prejudices and embrace America's longest-running ally. You have fine cheese and wine to gain!

The kids in France think a Caprice des Dieux is a Camembert. French culture ain't what it used to be. The food is increasingly a disappointment as well - can you say 'bains marie'? As far as France being America's oldest ally, you have to be stupid or French to say something like that ...ohh wait, that's the same thing.

"As far as France being America's oldest ally, you have to be stupid or French to say something like that ..."

The poster is challenged to cite an older one.

The oldest ally and first nation to recognize the newly formed United States of America was the country of Morocco in 1977

"Relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States date back to the earliest days of U.S. history. On December 20, 1777, Morocco formally recognized the colonies as a unified sovereign nation. Morocco remains one of America's oldest and closest allies in the Middle East and North Africa, a status affirmed by Morocco's zero-tolerance policy towards al-Qaeda and their affiliated groups."

While the claiming poster did not answer, the possibility that another country could have had a few month's advantage on France is accepted. However, the enormous help France gave in the War for Independence, especially financial, and our following long history of co-operation certainly make France the number one ally.

How many disagree that France is acting properly in the case of Mali?
