Has it been forgotten, for example, how they saved the hostages and took out the terrorists on the plane in Toulouse, how they protected the American flank in the 'end run' in the first Gulf War, how they handled the situation in the Yugoslav disintegration?

In the 1950's the French were finally defeated in a small asian country called Vietnam.

So we stepped in to continue their colonial occupation and prop up the French puppet dictator government.

And we all know how that turned out.
