For reality's sake, take a look at the other news programs not in the "cable news" category, but viewed on cable also. NBC evening news gets almost 10 million viewers every evening. ABC and CBS evening news broadcast bring the viewership up to over 22 million viewers, every day. But that is only part of the story. Most Americans get their news from local affiliate stations that concentrate on local news, weather and sports with only short synopsises about national news. A program like 60 Minutes from CBS will get about 12 million viewers on average.
Cable news networks are mostly just important to news junkies and have little to do with how Americans get their news.
