foreigners on Olympic teams

I see American Alex Gamelin is skating for South Korea
he was granted SKorean citizenship in 2017
what kind of crap is this???!!!

Well, he's a South Korean citizen... so he'll skate for South Korea.

What's hard to understand? He's not American.
he lives most of his life in America and he's not American??
hahahhahaha
so, all the good athletes can vie to all the countries to grant them citizenship??
no--he's really American--not SKorean--he's white and lived his whole life in America
this is like cheating--that's the problem

Stop whining. If he's granted South Korean citizenship, he's South Korean and can represent them in the games. What's the big deal? May the best athlete win.
so --really--Korea is using Americans for their team
and, if you want the best to win, then why have medals given for the countries?? just let the best athletes compete --that would mean some countries would have more competitors...their would be no limit on the number of athletes per team

so the SKoreans are using Americans for their team--it's not really a total SKorean Team

If he has Korean citizenship he is Korean..
1. isn't it dual citizenship?
2. he spent his whole life in the US
ok ok hahahahahhahahahahahahahaa hahah
they are using people that have lived their whole lives in the US for their team

so the SKoreans are using Americans for their team--it's not really a total SKorean Team
If he has Korean citizenship he is Korean..
so you can live your whole life in ''your country''', but can be another country's team!!!!???!!
Yep no law against it...
sure--but then it's not really country vs country....if they win a medal, it's not really totally a SK win

That's not how the Olympic committee sees it..

so he's not really, totally [ hahahah ] SKorean
One South Korean couple has competed in ice dance in Olympic history — a last-place finish at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games.
American-born figure skater closer to representing S. Korea in PyeongChang
he's as much SKorean as I am black

He has been skating internationally for several years and has won awards in foreign nations...So he evidently has not spent his entire life in the US..

I'm not threatened --you are now being silly-hahahahha
it's not fair to not just the US but other countries also for him to skate under the SK flag

this means anyone from any country can compete under any country's flag--MAKING the Olympics NOT a country vs country event

I couldn't care less who or what country wins medals
I'm just pointing out the OBVIOUS ridiculousness of the country vs country aspect and the unfairness
why does someone pointing out unfairness threaten you??

so if you have better athletes from the US [ or anywhere ] who didn't make the US team because there is a limit to the numbers each country can send, these athletes go to other countries
so they are screwing over those countries' athletes
the medal count per country is skewed
it's not really SK people that are competing
whats so hard to understand?

You sure do seem unduly obsessed with this if you're not feeling threatened. If someone is a citizen of a given country, they can represent that country at the Olympics. Pretty simple.
