Ford President: “U.S. steel costs are more than anywhere else in the world" Thanks To Trump Tariffs

Obviously Trump's tactic here (well, maybe it isn't obvious to some) is to force these nations to ultimately come to the table and end up dropping tariffs and questionable trade policies across the board. I'll give him credit for trying, kind of.

No doubt he wanted this all to come to fruition before the 2018 elections, but he's dealing with wise and tactical world leaders who won't fold for him like an overwhelmed competing construction company in New York City.

That said, it sure would be nice not to see partisan celebrations when shit goes south (to any degree whatsoever) for a change, but I guess that's just where we are across the board now: Ideology & party over country.

So what? They had a big stock bump when the 25% steel tariffs went into effect, so the stock price settles into where it should be based on Q3 earnings. The US steel makers are doing way better after the tariffs.

I'd ask for proof but that's a waste of time.

The big government, high tax cultists really have lost their minds. Tariffs have causes US manufacturers to produce stronger steel? What kind of idiotic statist bullshit is this?

70% of what Joe Hinrich said is political bullshit, Joe is president of worldwide operations and is not that close to anything. No US steel is used to make any Ford vehicles outside of the US. US steel in more expensive than Asian steel, the tariff are an attempt to level that. US steel is better that Asian steel because it is produced with tighter quality controls.
Forming body panels is a science and requires these tighter controls (in a lot of cases) on the material being fed into the tooling systems. This is how we are making lighter stronger vehicles.

This Ranger is not going to be exported anywhere except Canada & maybe Mexico. This truck has been and is currently being produced in Argentina, South Africa, and two plants in Thailand for those local world markets, and none of those plants use US made steel and never will.

The only vehicles that Ford exports to Europe or Asia from North America is Mustangs, Raptors and Lincolns to the most wealthy of their consumers in very low numbers, because Europe's and China's import tariffs are so high.

Ford of China is losing it's ass every quarter and it a major drain on Ford's overall profitability. So Joe needs to get his act together over there prior to voicing his disapproval of anything.

Just look at Tesla's announcement about building a plant in China. Tesla cannot afford to build anything anywhere, but the Chinese government wants Tesla, and is going to build Elon Musk this plant because they want their technology, which he will give up to get access to that market.

A Tesla models S is $80,000 in USA today.
A Chinese consumer will need to pay $178,000 to import a CA build vehicle to China.
China says they can build that same vehicle and sell it for $55,000, using Chinese material, parts and labor.
