If we take away the ability of Congress, the President, and high level bureaucrats to use our money to buy votes and favors and donations by paying off or 'helping out' targeted groups, we eliminate the huge portion of graft and corruption in government AND in the private sector as well. We could very well then be seeing true public servants go to Washngton to represent and serve us. There would be less hatefulness in political campaigns because it would be public servants with honorable motives running instead of career politicians who want to gain or keep one of the multi-million dollar jobs we now offer in Washington.

I strongly support a Constitutional amendment making it illegal for anybody in the federal government use the people's money for any form of charity, benefit, favor, or contract to any targeted group. If it doesn't benefit everybody, rich and poor alike, they can't do it.

My father has diabetes. His kidneys failed. He needs dialysis 3x per week. He'd be dead if it wasn't for Medicare.

I haven't read the whole thread, but can you wrap your head around the fact that it is ethically up to you to organize your life and finances to pay for what you need when you retire? That it is unethical and immoral to choose not to do that and then expect others to pay for your retirement? And giving the federal government the abilility to use the people's money to dispense any form of unreimbursed charity, benevolence, aid, or favors is corrupting to those in goverment and to the beneficiaries of those receiving the aid?

A pension is part of the pay you get for working. Don't like it? Keep voting Republican. Maybe you've got a couple extra bedrooms in your house. Your parents can move in with you.

In 1972, I gave birth to my oldest child. It cost $350.00. I had the best doctor in town ($200.00) and delivered him in the best hospital in town ($150.00), two years later when I had my second it cost $600.00. In 40 years it now costs around $8,000.00+ dollars to deliver a child in the hospital, if there are no complications. I had excellent health care in an excellent facility, would someone care to explain to me why those costs have gone up so dramatically??

I have a pretty good idea but I want to see how partisan this can be before I tell you my experiences.

Mine cost $20k. One day a doctor wandered by who - it turned out - didn't take our insurance. He wasn't our doctor. We didn't know him. We didn't ask for him. They sent us a bill for $800.

There was a woman who came in and played noise to see if the baby would look. She did. That cost $350.

Seriously. Unless you're unconscious, this "We do whatever the fuck we want, and then bill whatever we feel like" bullshit is, uh, bullshit, if you ask me.
