GOP Congressman Mark Souder tearfully quits over affair: 'I am so ashamed'

    but wait...
If only the asshole could understand most Americans are "sick of politicians who drag" their god "in front of cameras" as cover for "the problem they caused."

I confess. I'm terrible. I'm bad. But while it lasted, it was "gooooood" (sigh).

Let me gussy this up for the "Party of Personal Responsibility":

"I am so ashamed (that I got caught sticking my penis into the vagina of a woman who wasn't my wife on multiple occasions after years of campaigning as a moralist, because now my cover is totally blown and I am going to have to resign since no one will buy my bullshit now and now even though I totally created this problem I am going to blame) the poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., (where) any personal failing is seized upon and twisted for political gain (especially when it's a sex scandal, which I totally new after observing politics for several decades)..."

At least he didn't drag his wife up there.

    I'll give him that.

For the record, I don't think infidelity is cause for resignation. However, it's the hypocrisy that makes guys like Souder such rich targets.

    He got some things right.

He did "sin" as that term is normally understood. He did betray his religious faith (his "God"). He certainly did betray his wife.

    He SHOULD feel ashamed.

The question is whether he would have felt this shame had he not been exposed for what he had done?

    I kinda doubt it.

    Was he right to resign?

    Yup.

Is there a whole lot more he could say of any value? Not really.

Could he have said a bit less?

    Probably.

Is there some "but" waiting to be sprung at the end of this post (my usual style, I confess)?

    Nope.

I always doubt the sincerity of the mea culpa of people who claim such strong beliefs, especially when they so easily put those beliefs aside.

Did the man struggle to lie and cheat? I doubt it, but he struggles to reclaim his supposed strong faith.

    fuck him.

you miss the point. people of strong faith seem to have convenient criteria for judging others and themselves.

If one's faith is strong I would expect it to be a struggle to break into sin---it appears very few people of strong faith have faith strong enough when the going gets rough---or kinky---or sleazy---or...

I don't think he should retire over it either. Mark Sanford should have immediatly. He's obviously crazy.
