Finally: GOP Congressman -'I am so ashamed'

If he had been a Democrat he would have blamed the vast right wing conspiracy. If he had been black, he would have claimed he was a victim of racism. If he were gay he would have claimed homophobia.
So now he claims personal responsibility no excuses and the leftists here just want to jump all over him.
Typical.

Oh, shut up. You think you know everything. For your information, I have compassion for the guy. He made a mistake. I don't think he should lose his job over it. If an elected official's personal life interferes with their job, then they should step down. If it doesn't, then there is no reason for them to give their job up.

I most certainly do not believe that married people should cheat. But it is a reality in the world we are living in. I don't want to lose an elected official that is doing a good job over their infidelity. Personally, I don't even want to know about it. It serves no purpose.

Couldn't agree more. I have known some very fine jurists who were both drunks and philanderers - but they NEVER let it interfere with their professional lives. I am sure that more politicians chase skirts than not. So long as they don't let it interfere with their professional lives, (and so long as they are smart enough to NEVER let their wife find out about it) who the heck cares? Certainly not I.

seriously dante...you're an idiot

people of strong faith sin all the time, read the bible and you will see its not just politicians

you miss the point. people of strong faith seem to have convenient criteria for judging others and themselves.

If one's faith is strong I would expect it to be a struggle to break into sin---it appears very few people of strong faith have faith strong enough when the going gets rough---or kinky---or sleazy---or...

It looks like it's you and your buds are doing all the judging here. I've watched Souder over the years since he was elected in 94 and he did none of what you are now doing, seemingly with perverse pleasure, because he is GOP and that's all you need to know.

wrong.

It isn't that he is GOP, it's that he is a busy body who can't practice what he preaches, and even if he did, I abhor the self appointed morality police---so yeah, it gives me a lift, and I celebrate his being hoist with one's own petard with glee. He used is morality as a weapon against others.

Would it surprise anyone if it turned out that all of the republican congresspeople and their spouses were swingers and c-street was really a secret porn studio/gay bar on Wednesday nights?

It actually wouldn't surprise me much at all, and I suspect that many marriages in D.C. are more partnerships than marriages.

Marriage as networking? :eusa_whistle:

Let him do his job... stay out of his life... don't tell him how to live his life.....

GOP Congressman Mark Souder tearfully quits over affair: 'I am so ashamed'

The human cost was evident in Souder’s five-minute speech, interrupted by tears and deep breaths as the congressman fought for control. It was a scene in sharp contrast to other recent revelations of infidelity, including South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and Nevada Sen. John Ensign.

“I sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff,” Souder said. “In the poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon and twisted for political gain. I am resigning rather than put my family through a painful, drawn-out process.”

In what seemed to have become a well-worn road, Souder apologized to his family, his God and his constituents. He said his wife, Diane, offered to stand by his side, but the congressman rejected the offer.

but wait...
“I’m sick of politicians who drag their spouses in front of cameras rather than confronting the problem they caused,” he said.

“I wish I could have been better,” he said. “My comfort is that God is a gracious and forgiving God.”

If only the asshole could understand most Americans are "sick of politicians who drag" their god "in front of cameras" as cover for "the problem they caused."

He's only ashamed that he got caught.

Just once I'd like some POL to have the balls to say

"Yeah I was fucking around. So the fuck what?

AT least I'm not accepting bribes as campaign contributions and advances for books nobody will buy like every other member of this congress of theives and liars has been doing."

But of course if your political career is in part based on the lie that you are some sort of highly moral person, and if you are in fact accepting legal bribes to stay in ofiice, that's probably not the avenue you're going to take when you get caught with your pants down.

Too bad, isn't it?

Just think what fun politics would be if people actually had the balls to be honest with us.

Pissed? The only thing I pissed is my pants---laughing so hard.

The man made his private life public. The man was telling others how to live. The man was....

you're not sympathetic. you only try to score cheap points...and you haven't even accomplished that. you're a loser :eusa_whistle:

I'd prefer these creepy moralists and family values assholes keep their creepy private lives private, and stay the hell out of the private lives of others.

He says after starting a thread about someone else's private life choices.....

:cuckoo:

Private choices?

The man made his life public. The man is a moralist who couldn't keep his mouth shut about others.

reading and comprehension is not your strong suit, neither is posting. you posted my quotes. read it again and then get back to me....when you grow up.
