Menendez dared to challenge Obama over Israel and Iran. Now he will be made to pay over charges that until now have languished. Very scary use of DOJ. But, this is de rigueur with this White House.

Menendez (D-N.J.) is under federal investigation regarding his relationship with a donor, Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen, and whether he interceded on behalf of his business interests with federal agencies and officials.
Menendez, who accepted flights on Melgen’s private jet and did not repay some of them until years later, has denied any wrongdoing and has set up a legal fund that has raised and spent about $1 million.
The Washington Post reported in March 2013 that a federal grand jury was looking into Menendez’s relationship with Melgen. The New Jersey Law Journal reports that the grand jury is “looking into gifts Menendez received from his friend, Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen, and actions the senator took on Melgen’s behalf.”
The New Jersey Law Journal report also said the government alleges that Menendez and then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) met with then-Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius regarding Melgen in 2012 — something that has not been previously reported. The Washington Post in 2013 reported that Menendez met with the acting administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding a Melgen billing dispute.
