Extendn Unemplymnt Insurnce Ths Yr Shld Be A Given Fr Cngrss!

No the gubmint doesn't have to do squat but get out of the way.

That was not the cry of Wall Street when they were looking for bailouts.

And they should have never been granted. Guess whom did that?

From where I sat it looked like all of the above. Since Wall Street made this mess with their asset bubbles maybe we should tax them more to pay for Unemployment Insurance.

No they should just go out of business and be made to answer to their shareholders that would include those of us that have 401k's and the like.

We don't need government ensuring that. We can take care of that ourselves.

We've already agreed the economy has only one job for every five workers and can't produce enough in the short run for the rest. Where will the jobs come from?

Do you think people will sit around and let themselves and their families go live under the bridge?

That's the whole point of my question. Do you?

What are they going to do without a job, without the prospect of a job, without benefits and facing starvation?

They'll find themselves a job. Of course with higher min wage it will be more difficult to get work because low paying jobs have been essentially outlawed.
What do you think they'll do? Go rob banks?
You have zero faith in individuals. This is what makes you a liberal statist. You think people are merely pawns incapable of looking after themselves. Some of us know better. People are ingenious and when faced with adversity will find ways to rise above it.

Unemployment Benefits are not meant to be permanent. They never were. Some people really do assume they're entitled to receive Unemployment Benefits forever. Well that just isn't the case. It's only a temporary fix. That's all Unemployment Benefits were ever meant to be. Contrary to popular belief, you're not entitled to it forever. These benefits do end. It's up to the Democrats if they want to extend Unemployment Benefits. But eventually they will have to end for many Americans.

Some people are of the view that every problem demands a government solution. So people are unemployed. Solution: Send them taxpayer money.
This attitude is relatively new, just since FDR and his programs. We need to role it back, way back.

Yep Bleed the taxpayers dry...then what?

Yep. The safety net was meant to be just that...never a hammock.

I know these days that quoting scripture will not win any popularity contests but has anyone gotten it yet that we may be on the wrong paths? Could there be a possibility that remembering our roots and previous foundations when the country was going up in prosperity and not down could possibly be advantagious?

Deuteronomy 15:7-11:
7 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:
8 But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth.
9 Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.
10 Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto.
11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

May God Bless America!
That's good scripture. Notice how it's a command to individuals to help those less fortunate. It's not a command to government.

I totally agree but since the individuals are failing and suffering the consequences of their failures then government needs to take care of all the people not just Wall Street, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Then don't try to use the Bible to justify it.

I agree. They are only entitled when in all good faith they can't find one. The system has checks in place on the good faith thing. Fraudulence lands you in jail.

When unemployment numbers are in healthy ranges there are no extensions.

Other than perhaps a few there are no unemployed happily sitting back and collecting that meager amount.

Growth comes from growth investment, not gold, not silver, not rehashing the same old tired industries but from sucking up the gut and investing in research and new inventions.

playing the stock market is a coward's game and reaps a coward's reward.
How do you think companies get the money to invest in research and new inventions?

Hint: They get it by people playing the stock market.

Certainly not by rehashing the same old tired stocks, but by investing in research, innovation and invention. That is a rare commodity in the gambling house of Wall Street.
Research, innovation, and invention are what create wealth, so of course they're not rare.

No they aren't rare. It's what made this Country. Unfettered liberty to make it so. The problem is the mile-high walls erected by government that discourages it within our borders...and encourages moving outside our borders.

People who rely on Other People's Money to fund their utopian schemes never realize that eventually, you run out of OPM.

Europe is figuring that out even as we speak.

Our government has all but eliminated trial and error.
Trial and error was what got us to be most innovative in the world.

From where I sit it looks like greed that would rather pay sub human wages in overseas sweatshops then do the right and moral things.

Hey, I thought you were on Wall Street's side?

I know most Socialists/Progressives really do think Unemployment Benefits are meant to be permanent but they really aren't. They are meant to only be a temporary fix. An individual Citizen is not entitled to receive these benefits forever. These benefits do eventually run out because that's how the system was set up. If you haven't found a job in three or four years, that's all on you. There are jobs out there. They may not be dream-jobs but the jobs are there. These benefits will have to be allowed to expire at some point. I'm sure the Democrats will politicize and demonize this issue but the system was set up this way for a reason. Three or four years on Unemployment is more than enough time to have found work.

It can be looked at a different way.
Why pay workers in the US and have to pay high payroll taxes, health care, real estate taxes and have your company stagnate or possibly slowly die off becuase you can not price your goods to compete with the goods that are imported?

It is not always an issue of maximizing profits.

Some business decisions are made to minimize costs to the consumer and allow for being able to compete.

I fear you are a victim of the talking points of the left.
