Racial sensitivity has been heightened across the southern US following the murders of nine black worshippers at a Charleston, South Carolina church last June, by a suspected gunman who sympathized with white supremacist views and adorned his social media posts with Confederate regalia.

The shooting caused many southern states to re-examine public symbols of the Confederacy. The Confederate battle flag was subsequently removed from some official locations; statues of Confederate heroes like Lee, Jefferson Davis and Stonewall Jackson have also come under scrutiny.

Find a text book and have someone read to you on the history of the US from 1789 to 1865. If your emphasis was on the word "United" it may explain what you do not know. Better yet, find a copy of Meacham's, American Lion, and read Webster's response decades before the first shot was fired at Fort Sumter.

These crybabies didn't worry about southern civil war statues before or during obama's entire presidency. They're just acting out because they think hilary should be prez. I can kinda maybe understand a black person being a little resentful of these statues, especially since they've been mollycoddled and catered to and made to believe they're victims of white folks. I surely don't understand why a white person would give a hoot about a Robert E lee statue one way or the other, other than if they're politicians trying to curry favor with black folks before an election.

How about we tell the complete story? With all the complaining I hear from yall about Fake news it baffles me to see the hypocrisy as you push these false narratives.

Robert E Lee day was established in the 1940's... Like the statues it appears to be a "Fuck You" to the blacks who were fighting for equal rights in the south. In 1985, Clinton added MLK day as a holiday on the same day as Robert E. Lee day, and this year the legislators are trying to get Lee's name off that holiday all together.
