No where in that passage does it say no one will ever know. You can read that into it all you want. But it doesn't say what it doesn't say.

Mat 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Not even Noe knew when the food would come. The Lord told him it was coming, but he didn't tell him WHEN it would come. This is the same for the coming of the Lord.

Only the Lord knows when it will be. Christ was explaining that we can know when it is near but not when exactly it will happen.

Besides, like you said, you can not read anything into something that is not there. What you say about Christ telling those 'then' that they will not know but those later 'can' would be reading into something that is not there. He never said that only those 'then' will not know, same as He didn't say that those in later generations 'could' know. So I would not venture into saying that anyone 'can' know when it plainly states that in that day it will be like the day of Noe or like a thief in the night.

I am sorry you do not see this. I guess the Lord hasn't shown you yet, and it is up to Him if he does.

He said that it's in one of the four gospels that Jesus, when asked, said only his father knew the date of the Apocalypse. Wonder how American right wingers found out?

The "Rapture" is load of bollocks.

It's not really a part of the Christian doctrine, even though plenty of Christians buy into it.

I don't buy the rapture because not everyone can catch on to participation.

What the Bible says no one knows the time or the place, not even the angels.

The Heaven's Gate folks all committed mass suicide because their leader told them the Hale Bopp comet's significance meant they should all go to God at the same time by catching a ride on a Comet.

The moral of this story is, don't eat the applesauce provided by false prophets. The leader was a former mental patient.

I have two thoughts on the subject matter.

But in reality, my opinion is thus:

I may some day go into my study of the rapture and end times events in scripture... but not now. I spent a few years studying that subject and know there's a lot of poop out there. Needless to say, don't be suckered.

True what your friend said. It's verse 36, in Matthew chapter 24. Amazing chapter; though all His Word is awesome.
