Post count's irrelevant. If a person's high number of posts are all smilies or short one-liners, that's not the same as somoene who writes a few paragraphs in each with a similar number. Nor if they post to the word games groups most of the time or similarly.

The value of such indicators don't objectively mean anything. Good posters are good writers. Number of posts, ratings, etc are just grade school popularity contests in effect. As in mmorpgs, people can beat the game;s system by logging in with multiple machines giving the impression of individuals when in fact it's one guy 'boxing.' Same with ratings here, people could ceivably log in on different machines, with different accounts giving applause for their own posts making such ratings completely worthless. I don't like to think that's happening, but with talk of 'socks' it would seem possible.
