Eek! Stock market mess hits home

As far as education being "worth it"? Manifold, I simply disagree with your assessment that it's not. I know how to do math, thanks. ;) I agree the cost is outrageous, but how do you quantify the lack of education, experience, and opportunity, once you get beyond the monetary payback point?

My point is that many (not all) never actually get beyond the payback point.

With low interest rates, huh? Yeah, you don't want those high yield accounts Rav, that's probably more money than you need

Rav, why not contact your account manager and see if you can move your money into Treasuries? That would be a safe place for it right now.
I think it is in munis now...isn't that supposed to be even lower risk?

I'm sorry, I must point out that you seem to be delusional. That's what Bush did when he got into office and it hasn't worked out that way at all.

Can you prove no or few companies hired, gave raises or reinvested in themselves after the tax cuts? I'll wait.

No, and you can't prove the contrary. I can only go by what I see, and what I see is the economy SUCKS!

NO!

They're at lower rates because they are income tax exempt, not because they are lower risk.
Okay, I really suck at this stuff, too.

But they are considered safe, right...I mean they are basically based on local and state governments.

Seriously, Bern, I can't prove it, but I suspect all the tax cuts went into employee bonuses and pay raises at the top end of the corporations.

I like treasuries because I see deflation in our future, maybe sooner than later, and treasuries are where you'd want to be in that case.

The market will come back.

The bottom will be reached soon.

Do the Wall Street shuffle
Hear the money rustle
Watch the greenbacks tumble
Feel the Sterling crumble

You need a yen to make a mark
If you wanna make money
You need the luck to make a buck
If you wanna be Getty, Rothschild
You've gotta be cool on Wall Street

You've gotta be cool on Wall Street
When your index is low
Dow Jones ain't got time for the bums
They wind up on skid row with holes in their pockets
They plead with you, buddy can you spare the dime
But you ain't got the time
Doin' the....
Doin' the....

Oh, Howard Hughes
Did your money make you better?
Are you waiting for the hour
When you can screw me?
'Cos you're big enough

To do the Wall Street Shuffle
Let your money hustle
Bet you'd sell your mother
You can buy another

Doin' the....
Doin' the....

You buy and sell
You wheel and deal
But you're living on instinct
You get a tip
You follow it
And you make a big killing

On Wall Street

Can you prove that the economy during Bush (with tax cuts) did better than during Clinton (without tax cuts)? I'll wait.

My daughter's college fund lost $2,600 in September.

:(

And this is what they mean when they say Wall Streets problems effect Main Street. This is the kind of shit that happens when Wall Street takes a hit. Hopefully the bailout will work and this will reverse itself, but who knows.

I'm sorry to get political but if you think it's bad now look at the survey I posted a few minutes ago... When the corporations get taxed more I can't see how that's going to help the market/people's 401k.
When corps get taxed more.. WTF.. two thirds of em pay nothing... if they were pulling their fare weight maybe our taxes would be lower.. dumbass..

On a side note.. my wife got the were out of money speech from here employer and depending on who buys wachovia, I will be in that lunch line sometime between 1 and 3 years.. best case..
