Philadelphia is the celebrated 'City of Brotherly Love' and features iconic urban architecture and a storied sports-fanfare history. Philly sports fans are known for their nearly-spiritual support of their well-known teams/stars such as Mike Schmidt's Phillies (MLB), Randall Cunningham's Eagles (NFL), Ron Hextall's Flyers (NHL), and Julius Irving's 76ers (NBA).

The Phillies won the World Series in 2008 (with stars like Chase Utley), the Flyers won the Stanley Cup in 1974-1975 (with their star Bernie Parent), and the 76ers won the NBA title in 1967 (with their star Wilt Chamberlain).

However, the sad-eyed Philadelphia Eagles (NFL) have never ever ever won the supreme title --- the Super Bowl.

The Eagles last lost the Super Bowl in 2005 (after the 2004-2005 season), losing to Tom Brady's indomitable New England Patriots 24-21. The Eagles were led then by gritty QB Donovan McNabb. The 2004-2005 season was otherwise stellar for the Eagles.

This season, the Eagles are once-again red hot and many predict that the Eagles can get to the Super Bowl under the leadership of their talented young QB Carson Wentz. However, critics predict the Eagles will once again face Brady's Patriots (in the Super Bowl) --- and once again lose!

So this post is about an Eagles-prayer for the City of Brotherly Love. The Eagles are the only Philadelphia pro-sports team to have never won a championship title.

As Carson Wentz gave his Philadelphia Eagles wide-receivers a pep-talk before their Super Bowl re-match with Tom Brady's New England Patriots, he wondered if the Eagles would suffer another heartbreak in the championship-game (the same way QB Donovan McNabb suffered at the hands of who else but Brady's Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX). Wentz had a terrific season and many claimed he was the answer to the prayers Philly-fans really needed. After all, the Eagles were the only Philadelphia professional sports team to have never won the supreme title. Wentz felt like the world was on his shoulders...

Wentz recounted the inspiration that legendary NFL coach Dick Vermeil provided the Eagles 1976-1982. Wentz remembered the heartbreak NFL coach Andy Reid endured with the Eagles in 2004-2005 when they lost the Super Bwol. Wentz thought about the world of expectations Philly-fans placed on his team this season. Everyone wanted Wentz to take down Tom Brady's Patriots. Ironically and ominously enough, Cam Newton's QB leadership took the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl (to face Brady's Patriots) two seasons ago --- and lost. Then, QB Matt Ryan's Atlanta Falcons took on Brady's Patriots in the Super Bowl last season --- and lost. Would Wentz be the crowning-piece of the aspiring QB-heartbreak Super Bowl 'trifecta' for Tom Brady?

Now, Brady's Patriots were already being hailed as the premiere team of the first part of the new millennium, having won a whopping 5 Super Bowl titles and appearing in 7 Super Bowl championship games --- all under the leadership of invincible QB Tom Brady (what a Godzilla!). In fact, Brady and the Patriots only lost two Super Bowl games in this new millennium (in 2008 and 2012) --- both to QB Eli Manning's New York Giants (what an upset-combo!). Many sports-writers were saying Brady would pull off this 'QB-heartbreak trifecta' by taking down aspiring QB Carson Wentz' Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII (in U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota).

Wentz had a dream --- he wanted to do what Cam Newton's Panthers and Matt Ryan's Falcons failed to do --- to perform in a terrific hotshot QB season and then defeat Brady's Patriots in the Super Bowl --- and not become the dreaded 'trifecta statistic' for Brady that many sports-writers were claiming Wentz would indeed become! Wentz decided he would strategize and play diligently and carefully (the same way NY Giants QB Eli Manning did when he defeated Brady's Patriots in two Super Bowls!). Wentz concluded that Eli Manning had the right 'attitude' and 'scheme' to take down the Brady-Patriots Godzilla of this new millennium. Wentz decided to present this newfound mental perspective in a televised interview on ESPN. Now, ESPN anchormen were wondering if Wentz had the same imagination as Giants QB Eli Manning. All Wentz knew was that the Eagles deserved a Super Bowl title.

Actually, not true. The Iggles defeated Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers to win the NFL championship in 1960. And though it's before my time I believe they won it in 1949 before that.
