From what I understand, the attack on the embassy in Libya was in retribution for drone attacks.

I've noticed some USMB posters calling Obama a murderer because of these drone attacks.

You have to wonder what that label of murderer coming from Americans does to help stir up terrorists.

Especially when the previous president was called one too.

Not as much as a drone attack killing innocent civilians and wiping out families because some 20 year old kid, sitting behind a joy-stick in Nevada, with this juvenille Top Gun attitude, called in an air-strike, because he confirmed there were no children seen in 3 SUV's traveling on this road in Afghanistan. The fact that he deliberately sent confusing messages to commander's in the area and the helicopter crews that fired the hellfire missles, by actually seeing children from his drone, but referring to them as "adolescents". If they were children, no attack. If they were adolescents, they could be of jihadist age, so attack is authorized.

How would you like to live in a country where there was a chance you might get hit by a missle on your way to the liquour store, from some foreign military illegally in your country?

Jihadists will want the world to believe that the attack is just a part of the protests against an amateur film produced in the U.S., which includes crude insults regarding the Prophet Mohammed. They will want the world to think that their actions represent a popular Libyan and wider Muslim reaction; thus, reversing the perception of jihadists being outcasts from their own societies. Since there were similar protests in Egypt against the film, it is possible that more protests may erupt in Muslim-majority countries such as Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The jihadists may also feel that by killing U.S. citizens, they will win the support of local populations. They are wrong.

This attack was committed by a small group of extremists who do not represent the Libyan population. They seek to destroy any reconstruction attempts in my mother country. As often is the case, extremists try to take advantage of the absence of security in a country that has just gotten out of a civil war. They try so hard to destabilize the peace that the majority of the population have fought so hard to establish.

Ambassador Stevens himself was well known for advocating peace and stability in Libya. The recent election results in the country are testament to his conviction that Libya can achieve progress. That Libyans did not vote the radicals into office in the elections proves that Libya is not a nation of extremists. The extremists' response to their electoral defeat comes in a language they relish: Violence.

The attack on the U.S. consulate is a truly tragic event. Libya has lost one of the few foreign figures that really sought to invest time and energy into our country and believed in its future. Ambassador Stevens was one of a select number of international public figures based in Libya, who had refused to give up on Libya and its deteriorating security situation in recent months. He was an extremely successful envoy, who traveled the country to meet with all groups of Libyan society, and did not confine himself to international circles in the capital. No village or town was too far, and he was always keen to understand local customs. His death is a loss not just for Americans, but for many Libyans.

Pro-al Qaeda group seen behind deadly Benghazi attack

A pro-al Qaeda group responsible for a previous armed assault on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi is the chief suspect in Tuesday's attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya, sources tracking militant Islamist groups in eastern Libya say.

They also note that the attack immediately followed a call from al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri for revenge for the death in June of a senior Libyan member of the terror group Abu Yahya al-Libi.

The group suspected to be behind the assault -- the Imprisoned Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades -- first surfaced in May when it claimed responsibility for an attack on the International Red Cross office in Benghazi. The following month the group claimed responsibility for detonating an explosive device outside the U.S. Consulate and later released a video of that attack.

Noman Benotman, once a leading member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and now based at the Quilliam Foundation in London told CNN, "An attack like this would likely have required preparation. This would not seem to be merely a protest which escalated."

"According to our sources, the attack was the work of roughly 20 militants, prepared for a military assault; it is rare that an RPG7 is present at a peaceful protest," Benotman said.

"According to our sources, the attack against the consulate had two waves. The first attack led to U.S. officials being evacuated from the consulate by Libyan security forces, only for the second wave to be launched against U.S. officials after they were kept in a secure location."

That analysis is supported by U.S. sources who say the attack on the consulate is believed to have been pre-planned. The sources say the attackers used the protest as a diversion to launch the attack, although the sources could not say if the attackers instigated the protest or merely took advantage of it.

The sources do not believe the ambassador was directly targeted.

Libyan Deputy Interior Minister Wanis al-Sharif, speaking at a news conference in Benghazi on Wednesday, said that "among the protesters, there were some who infiltrated the march to start chaos."

Valerie, what are you trying to say, exactly? I realize that these attacks appear to be terrorists and that the Libyan government has nothing to do with them.

4) What will the United States do about the attack?

President Barack Obama said Wednesday that the United States "will not waver in our commitment to see that justice is done for this terrible act – and make no mistake, justice will be done."

A senior U.S. official told CNN that American surveillance drones are expected to join the hunt for jihadists who may be tied to the attack. The drones are expected to gather intelligence that will be turned over to Libyan officials for strikes, the official said.

A senior defense official said the drones would be part of "a stepped-up, more focused search" for a particular insurgent cell that may have been behind the killings.

In June, a senior Libyan official told CNN that U.S. controllers were already flying the unmanned craft over suspected jihadist training camps in eastern Libya because of concerns about rising activity by al Qaeda and like-minded groups in the region.

Two U.S. Navy destroyers – the USS Laboon and the USS McFaul – are moving toward the coast of Libya, two U.S. officials told CNN. Both ships are equipped with tomahawk missiles that could be used if a strike was ordered.

About 50 U.S. Marines from a rapid reaction force headed to the Libyan capital, Tripoli
, after the attack to beef up security in response to the attack, U.S. officials said Wednesday. The unit is specially trained to retake or guard diplomatic installations and other U.S. facilities in troubled regions.

The United States said it also would increase security at its embassies around the world.

Just putting some of the facts on the table toward your OP which says "From what I understand, the attack on the embassy in Libya was in retribution for drone attacks."

SO I am posting info that shows what others are saying about their motivation...

The Libyan Islamic Fighting Group is the terrorist organization we put in power in Libya. Then we get all surprised when the terrorist group does what terrorist groups do. Has anyone thought that if we hadn't of given them material support to assume power in Libya, that the embassy attacks would not have happened?

Let me put it this way, you pay a local street gang to go start some shit in one of your neighbors house. They trash their property and kill some of their family members. Now how do you think the owners of that house are going to think of you, when they find out you paid this street gang to do this? And just suppose that the moment they found this out, one of your cousins happened to be over there visiting, when they start going off about you? Your cousin opens his mouth and tries to defend what he sees as an attack on his family, not knowing you're the one who funded the attack on theirs, what do you think their reaction to statements would be?

Holy cow!! The left is just realizing terrorists are from all over the Mideast, not just one country. While their leaders condemn these acts of violence, do you see them trying to stop them?? You know like Pakistan and Bin laden.

Oh, and they are not terrorists and they are not the enemy, Republicans are. ;)

Sure they don't. Meaningless rants feed your blindness don't they? Wake up, the Arab spring put the Muslim Brotherhood in control, Obama wasted no time welcoming them. You actually believe they are peace keepers that have US interests in mind??

Apparently the Libyan government has nothing to do with the attacks so your rant is meaningless.
And yours is irresponsible.

We have a history of interfering in other country's by creating insurrection, yet you won't assume any responsibility for these actions and the reactions they cause?
