Does Gun Control Reduce Violent Crime?

Does Gun Control Reduce Violent Crime? - GVPedia

A statistical study of data from US cities with a population of more than 25000 indicates that gun control overall does not really reduce violent crime.

Some measures which prevent the mentally ill from possessing guns have small effects as do restrictions on alcoholics.
If Adolf Hitler was alive today he could certainly answer your question with no chance of error!

There are other methods people use for violence. It's just not guns. People have used their vehicles, knives, bats, pipes ... just to name a few.
Gun violence is just a coward way to end someone quickly. It's better (and somehow macho, to use a gun rather than a bat or a pipe. JMO)

Interesting proposition. We Canadians believe in general that strict control of handguns keeps our gun violence statistics at a low level, as it appears do most other modern first world countries.

That begs the question on whether we are being fooled by thinking it has anything to do with control of handguns.

As this relates to all guns in general, that's a more complicated question but we are more of the opinion that peaceful affitudes of gun owners is a big factor. Or more easily understood in that the inverse is America's biggest gun related problem.

Would it be correct to say that ex-military Americans who become police officers, carry the right they were granted to kill with impunity, to their duty as a police officer?

Does your low population, low gang and drug use the main reason why Canada has a low gun rate?

the 2nd A isnt about violent crime its about government tyranny and since everytime gun control was instituted it led to millions of deaths I see nothing good coming from gun control laws,,

no one ever said the world is a safe or easy place

When you brainwash an entire population that self-defense is the domain of governments only, you get a nation of pussies too afraid to defend themselves with any weapon. It really has nothing to do with guns but with obedience and a mindset that liberty isn't really that important.

A couple of important details with respect to the subset of the population responsible for highest number of gun deaths: males (9 out of 10 gun deaths involve males), ages 20-24 years of age (commit highest number of gun deaths, with over 2/3rds in the US being suicides.

Concentrated community mental health efforts is the way to resolve or at least reduce number of suicides. Young males who have stated intentions of a planned suicide or to have a "death by cop", who have demonstrated signs of clinical depression or psychosis, are most likely isolated socially, have had past attempts of suicide, or a parent who committed suicide (big connection to offspring committing suicide- particularly the sons). I'm not referencing the subset of our population who embraces thug behavior, but those who have mental health problems but could turn their life around if given appropriate medical intervention. Not all depression meds work for all people, not all psychotic minds can be helped by drugs but most can, and it takes effort to find the best med for the job...but it can be done.

They've taken it a few steps farther... many jurisdictions will make a citizen with no criminal record PROVE they had no other choice to save themselves or their families. I've heard that NJ, for example, makes the shooter prove they couldn't retreat from a home invader. That's right... even if a person gets into your home you have a duty to try to get away rather than to use deadly force. THAT is some messed-up logic there.
