Does America need another drug czar?

Let's convince the right wing to end the drug war to pay for health care.

I would end the war on drugs AND cut all services to illegal aliens.

Sounds good to me. As long as you're ready for the crime backlash.

You mean the one we are already having? How would there be a backlash that's any worse?

I'm saying that when you take things back from people, or refuse to give that which they are accustomed to receiving, they are going to seek alternative means to get their hands on those things. And one of those means is .. crime.

No more so then an alchy would steal to get booze.

They never were at war.

If they US were serious about the drug problem, they would have sealed off the border long ago, conducted drone strikes against the drug lords, and instituted the death penalty for dealers.

They would also not just go patch up drug users at tax payer expense without paying some price for breaking the law.
What are your thoughts on alcohol Prohibition?

I ask you this because that bit of authoritarian madness was fundamentally the same thing as the War On Drugs. Fortunately government had the good sense to end that fanatical oppression and to acknowledge there is no way to effectively prohibit something so many citizens want to do without threatening to violate the most basic principles of Freedom and Liberty.

Considering that beverage alcohol is as much a "drug" as is any other presently illegal mind-altering substance, the critical factor in deploying law-enforcement against drug use is drug use is a victimless "offense." There are many things that people do which can cause them harm, such as playing football, climbing mountains, sky-diving, and more. Should there be laws against those activities as well?

In the same way as alcohol Prohibition served the interests of bootleggers and gave rise to powerful criminal syndicates, drug prohibition serves the interests of "dealers" and has given rise to "cartels" which are infinitely more powerful than any of the Prohibition-era mobs. And the reason the drug war is continuously enabled in spite of the glaringly obvious harm its done to the fabric of our society is the corruption of those government representatives who vote to keep it alive.

If there is a "drug czar" there should be a "reproductive czar." Adults should be free to make adult decisions no matter what as long as it themselves or another consenting adult. And in fact, stupid people breeding is a lot more detrimental to society than folks taking painkillers who occasionally OD.

Absolutely not.

The War On Drugs has been totally counterproductive for all but a few beneficiaries such as the pharmaceutical industry, the liquor industry, the legal profession, the prison industrial complex, the law-enforcement complex, the drug-testing industry, the drug cartels and the corrupted political representatives who continue to vote for continuance of this obviously failed and harmful fiasco.

"Attempting to solve a problem by doing the same thing over and over and over and expecting a different result is one definition of insanity." (Albert Einstein) In this example the repetition does not reflect insanity but rather conspicuous corruption.

The same could be said about the war on poverty, but as the far left implements their policies, people seem to stay poor and the rich get richer.

So based on this logic the war on poverty should be abandoned.

We have to pick our battles. Alcohol has no where near the devastating effect drugs like heroin have on society.

Countries like Singapore have shown us how to wage war on such drugs. It is then a matter of having the will to do so. As has been said, the will to do so simply is not there, but don't say it can't be done. America just does not give a damn.

I believe that to be a half arsed war as well. Government does not want you richer, they want you dependent. That was the whole point of the leftist war on poverty, it was to make more people dependent.

The far left needs the rich so they can control the poor and claim that the government is looking out for them and protecting them from those evil rich people.

News flash: Most of the NFL players are part of the evil rich people!

No.

How much drugs did the last one stop?

Yeah, not enough to maintain the relevance of having a drug czar.

I thought czars were in Russia?

Leave it to Bush to inject Bolshevism into America.

He should be swinging next to Obama..in the breeze.

By what system of reasoning do you compare the War On Drugs with the War On Poverty?

Has the War On Poverty cost the taxpayers well over a trillion dollars since its inception? Is it responsible for imprisoning, thereby ruining the lives of more than a million Americans, most of whom were otherwise law-abiding, productive citizens? Is it responsible for giving rise to several powerful criminal cartels?

While it may be said that the War On Poverty does nothing, the War On Drugs does a lot -- all of it costly, counterproductive, and destructive.

Yes it has, but I guess in your blind religious fashion you choose to ignore it.

The hyper partisan rant shows you do not have a clue about the war on poverty other than you should support it as part of your religious beliefs.

Why the War on Poverty Failed |

See how the far left will deny that their programs are failures, just like how they have ruled over inner cities and they are only getting worse?

What I don’t get is why , if they won’t give it up, why not enlist the legal marijuana growers to help out? Sell them on funding the wall for instance. Pot is the Narco’s bread and butter.

It is interesting to me that the left wants to only legalize drugs, prostitution, and illegal immigration.

Everything else, they want to ban, prayer is schools, the Ten Commandments, essentially anything that would contribute to the moral fiber of society.

How about state run meth and crack houses next to the state run liquor stores?

Make everyone happy?
