Do you still wear a wristwatch?

I always wear a watch. I don't use my cell for anything but talking on.

Yes, on occasions where I can't take the time/make the effort to pull my cell phone out of it's case and press a button to wake it up.

I wear a wrist watch, it also contains my cellular commuications device, GPS and MP3 player.

I do. Its a Timex Ironman.

Yes.

I love my TAG.

I wore a wristwatch for over 25 years. Once, when the battery wore out and I was waiting to take it to the jeweler to get a new battery I started using my cell phone to tell time. I never got around to replace that battery

How many still wear a wristwatch?

Yes.

I wear a polished stainless steel Movodo watch.

The face is rectangular and solid black with no numbers.

Just has a silver hour and minute hand.

:clap2::clap2::clap2:

I think a man looks SO sexy wearing a watch.

My dream watch is a stainless steel Rolex.

With a dark blue face and a fluted bezel.

With silver hands and Roman numerals.

But I can't justify 10 grand for a watch.

I almost choked when I gave 2 grand for the one that I have now.

Isn't frivolous wealth against the Islamic Code?

There is nothing in Islam against having nice things.

But there is a restriction as to the type of metal that men and women wear.

Men can only wear "silver" rings, watches, chains, etc.

Where as, "gold" jewlery is only worn by women.

I do when I go out, but I work around magnetism and watches don't survive for long in a strong magnetic field.

Why? What's the reasoning Sunni?

I stopped wearing a watch on September 2, 2008. The day my dad died.

Sorry....but what's the connection??

No real connection. I wore or carried a watch (pocket) for more than thirty years. On Septmeber 2 my wife and I left work, went to visit my dad, then proceeded home. As we were changing out of our work clothes (the first thing I was in the habit of removing was my watch), my step-mother called to tell us Dad had died (he'd been sick for a while). The Mrs and I threw our clothes back on and went back to the house. I didn't put my watch on. I haven't put it on since. I guess I figure time just isn't really important. I don't know, haven't taken the time to talk to a shrink about it...

Rolex makes a watch called the "Milgauss"

It is completely anti-magnetic.

And is specifically made for people who work in power plants or industry where there is a lot of electromagnetic sources.

Wristwatches are a pretty convenient way of telling the time.

What is better?

Just look at your left wrist.

I still have the same wristwatche I purchased 7 years ago -haven't had to replace the battery yet.

As with all things in Islam. There is a separation of the genders. Gold is the most expensive and prices of all metals. Thus it is reserved for our most precious property; our wives. Underneath those abayas and burqas that the Muslim women wear. Are long strands of gold chains and gold coins. They are presents given to the Muslim woman by her husband as a sign of respect and love. Many times weighing several pounds.

Another prohibition is silk. Only Muslim women wear articles made of silk cloth. It is forbidden for a Muslim man to wear any form of silk apparel. I wear suits sometimes and it is difficult to find men's neck ties not made out of silk. They are available made out of other materials but the selection is very limited.
