A 16-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 20-year-old brother on Saturday with a handgun he thought was unloaded.

The younger brother told the police that he took the handgun into his brother's room and joked: 'Do you feel lucky?' before pulling the trigger.

The brothers were alone at home on the quiet cul-de-sac of Big Rock Street in the Stonegate Farms development of Blackman Township, Michigan.

The incident occurred while their parents were at the grocery store, according to MLive.

The younger brother called 911 and met officers at the front door, but the older brother was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:30 pm on December 6.

The victim has since been named as Patrick Spitler, a 2012 Northwest High School graduate, where he is remembered as a standout cross country runner.

More lives ruined, wrecked, devastated because we've just got to have lots and lots of guns.

STOOOOOPID.

But, as one of the comments notes, it doesn't really sound like an accident.

An NRA or local Gun Club Gun Safety course would have done wonders.

4 Rules of Gun Safety:

1. Treat guns as if they are loaded.
2. Keep finger off the trigger.
3. Only point at what you intend to shoot at.
4. Backstop and beyond.

This crap doesn't happen in other developed countries. In America we say thank god for Mexico so that we don't come in FIRST for gun deaths.
If Mexico could close down their cartels they'd drop to the bottom of this chart.
