Detroit-area man gets 17 years in porch shooting

DETROIT (AP) — A suburban Detroit man was sentenced Wednesday to at least 17 years in prison for killing an unarmed woman who appeared on his porch before dawn.
Theodore Wafer was convicted of second-degree murder in the Nov. 2 death of 19-year-old Renisha McBride. Before he was sentenced, the Dearborn Heights man apologized to her family, saying he killed a woman who was "too young to leave this world."

Can't just go shooting unarmed people who are outside your home.
Best to be sure of any danger...and see clearly in light just at whom you are shooting...before pulling the trigger.

On the other hand you should be able to have a six gun strapped on 'gunslinger style' in your own home and shoot anyone who's invaded your home and is menacing you...before they get to bash you, kick you, and toss you down stairs leading to the basement.
...or worse!
