F'ing unbelievable! I like National Review, there's some very good conservative writers there. Derbyshire is an editor, though for how long is anyone's guess. He didn't publish this essay on National Review, gee wonder why? I've never been found of himself, he seems the privileged characterization of an elite Republican. He's a snob, though he can write: http://takimag.com/article/the_talk_nonblack_version_john_derbyshire#axzz1rJPlABLB National Review has commented: Derb’s Screed - By Rich Lowry - The Corner - National Review Online
Yep, it was taking forever and must have hit the submit again. I edited it to * and hope a staff person will delete. What I'm glad about though is that seems the right isn't ignoring a racist writer, like the left protects their own: I'm happy to say that Forbes and Red State have already called for his firing: http://www.redstate.com/leon_h_wolf/...i-am-a-racist/ http://www.forbes.com/sites/joshbarr...hn-derbyshire/ On The Atlantic they are hoping for it: http://www.theatlanticwire.com/polit...red-yet/50803/ Even Media Matters admits that the right have pounced right on this, including National Review editors and contributors: Colleagues Condemn National Review Writer For "Appalling" Race-Talk "Screed" | Media Matters for America
At NRO, he's gone! Poof! He's named, the reason given, and it all happened in 24 hours. CBS and NBC, and MSNBC, and CNN could learn a thing or 2: Parting Ways - By Rich Lowry - The Corner - National Review Online
Personally disappointed that none on the right other than T, even acknowledge that this was wrong. Disappointed at the left for not acknowledging that the 'right' media, you know, those like Red State that you find so offensive, came out and said he had to go. Really, you should apply some of that lesson in constructive criticism to the outlets you do prefer, they don't kick out the bad apples.
I disagree. You'll find lots of libertarian leaning, especially but not confined to Mark Steyn. Yes, there are neocons there, but also real conservatives and progressives in the best meaning of the word. In any case, it certainly doesn't excuse the board's 'right members' from distancing themselves from a real racist. That doesn't mean that he didn't spout off a bit of commonsense, but when you look at the totality of his screed, it's bottom line racist.
Steyn's humor is the only reason I read that dreck...And even he veers deeply into neocon country. Bill Buckley is doing back flips in his grave.
Again I disagree with your total take, especially regarding Steyn and there are others. Regarding Steyn, did you see this? Wait and see how flexible he'll be | president, obama, new - Opinion - The Orange County Register
William F Buckley was a proud card carrying member of the NAACP. I used to get the National Review and I liked reading it, even though I seldom agreed with its basical POV. We parted ways when they called for tatooing of gay men (only gay men) with HIV.
