Democrats try to ram through Puerto Rican Statehood bill before Jan 3rd

Conservatives, perhaps, but in case you haven't noticed, the conservatives aren't in the driver's seat of the GOP any more.
Agreed. The GOP has shifted moderate over the last 20 years. Meanwhile, the left has sprinted to radical leftism.. the entire Overton window has shifted left.

So when you see leftists complaining about the so-called radical conservatives, they’re just so far left that moderates look radical from where they sit wayyyyyyy out there

Perhaps this will open up the gates to states splitting up into newer states. Imagine a thousand senators. 100 thousand representatives. I guarantee you doubling and tripling the total tax take of those struggling to survive due to eing over the so-called poverty line is going to play well is fool's gold. Whoopi Goldberg has had several abortions. Some other woman playing by the rules and struggling and accused of hate is as evil as it comes.

A “mere city” with a population greater than Wyoming and no representation in Congress
Well they can fucking move if they don’t like it, the rules have been the rules for over two centuries. They shouldn’t have a mayor, they shouldn’t elect a city council - it is explicitly federal territory controlled by Congress so no state would be considered favored by having the capital within it.

Then put DC into Maryland’s voting system.

Poof, problem solved.

But that’s not what leftists want
You also have to repeal the 23rd amendment which isn’t easy…

… because otherwise the residents of DC who don’t live in what would theoretically return to Maryland… which is just the folks who live at the White House, get 3 electoral college votes. If literally no one lives in the District of Columbia - if not even the White House is considered a residence, then there are 3 phantom EC votes that go to no one, ever.

Basically nothing changes DC’s status without 66 of the House and Senate agreeing and then 38 states agreeing to it.

The Constitution sets the rules for DC and becoming a state isn’t possible without amendment. Good luck to them if they want to try, well over half the states will vote no, so there goes your 75% requirement.

I’m all for this. It would finally force the citizens of Puerto Rico (including members of my wife’s family) to either request statehood or go out on their own. Neither option is really something they want. The “free association “ option would still make them their own country, but create a negotiated relationship between the US and Puerto Rico.

You do realize that a big chunk of the original DC was removed years ago right?
