Democrats taking firm control of government

After the stomping republicans took yesterday, perhaps you should spend more time pulling republican heads out of their asses.

What your failed party is facing is rapidly changing demographics and you have no appeal to much of anybody but white men and some of their spouses.

AS the demographics continue to change .. you'll continue to shrink.

What is republican identity now .. maybe 32%?

Sounds like a mandate

Why? I'm not a Republican. Perhaps if you did more than drive-bys around here you'd know that. They do need to get their shit together, true, But please don't bother trying to tell me the Dems are any better.

The Dems took the same stomping in 96. Sell your "mandate" crap to Harry Reid. He believes it.

Been through all this crap several times before. Enjoy your victory. They are fleeting moments.

well if we listen to this African American, maybe we will see why BHO got the Black vote.

so who will put gas in your car and pay your mortgage?

No racism there, eh?

Such comments (and I have seen a few from this poster) lead me to suspect that perhaps this election was more about race than anything else. I was mistakenly thinking it was about handouts.

"racism" .. stupid ridiculous

Are you suggesting that the Republican Party is not tailored to white men?

This election was about race?

Are you serious?

Perhaps it escaped your attention but Obama was supported by WHITE PEOPLE before he was supported by black people.

AND, I know you completely missed the FACT that Obama got more white votes than Kerry or Clinton.

Yeah. it was about race .. TO REPUBLICANS .. which is why you lost .. and will continue to lose until or unless you clowns on the right get smarter.

That from this poster.

check your facts

DImmies controlled the congress the last 2 years

.. and still had out of control dumb ass republicans with a checkbook .. with an assist from dumb ass scary democrats.

Point being, you had your shot with complete control of government .. and you blew it.

no. i didn't blow it i just corrected your mistake

They don't really need to get to 60 to solidify their power because several moderate republicans will be voting with them .. and Joe Lieberman will be looking to make friends.

This is a historic day for democrats who now have the reins of government thrust on them because of republican failures more than due to accomplishments of their own.

Now, with all this power, they'd better figure out the accomplishment thing.

From your mouth, to God's ears!

Interesting. You personally have made several posts about WHITE Republicans (because there are no black republicans I suppose) which automatically makes it about RACE. If you had just said "Republicans" then I wouldn't even notice but you did not. That tells me that race plays a very important role in your thinking.

As for uniting the country, how do you propose to do that when you continue to refer to those who disagree with you as "clowns"? Perhaps when you say "unite" you mean in an exclusive manner; i.e. , unite those already in agreement and marginalize and disenfranchise those who do not agree wholeheartedly with your PoV.

As for me being Republican, you have no clue.

"Drive-bys"

Hmm .. I get up every morning, start loading my client's databases on one screen and log onto this site on the other .. AND, if you weren't so concerned about "drive-bys" you'd know that I'm not a democrat, nor did I support Obama.

I've been through this before as well .. probably as many times as you have .. but I also recognize that society is dynamic and changing, not rooted in the past, not bound to repeat the same things forever.

As far as the democrats .. the democratic congress has approval ratings at about 28% .. YET, they stomped republicans.

Ignore the changing demographics if you choose .. I don't expect republicans can do anything else.

A lot of US care. That is the only way it will change.

If these dems are so stupid that they don't learn from what happened to the repubs, then there will be enough dem voters this time who will write and tell them to get off their asses.

If we can harness the power of the internet to give quick and heavy feedback to elected officials like Obama did for organizing his campaign, we could have better control of the inbreeding cycles in DC.

The good news is that I don't have to listen to her to know why African-Americans voted for Obama .. and franklly, only an idiot would.

Nor do I have to play "let's see who can find the dumbest person on YouTube" .. I'll leave that bullshit to the depressed.

There is no doubt that the demographics of this nation have changed and will continue to change. There is no doubt that the Republican party will have to change its platform if it wishes to remain a viable political entity. Your point about a dynamic and changing society is well taken, however; I am afraid that your comment about repeating the same mistakes ... we, as a nation, not only seem to make the same mistakes over and over but manage to make new ones in abundance as well.

I truth, I sincerely hope the citizens of this country wake up and insist on a third party. One whose platform is based on common sense and that has the good of the nation and its citizens at heart. we need a party concerned with the the general welfare and not power.

Fair enough .. and I somewhat agree with you .. however, voters didn't blame the democrats for an out of control Bush Administration or the failings of this economy.

Perhaps if republicans had spent more time analytically talking about issues and less time on ACORN, Wright, Ayers, muslim, birth certificates, and really stupid shit like that, they would have been better served.

Obama had lots of vulnerabilities, but republicans are stuck on Roveism, too far removed from intellectualism.

I just noticed that you're from Illinois .. Illinois has a long and cherished history of black emancipation and being in the forefront of electing and producing black leadership. I don't any state has the history of electing black US Senators as does Illinois.

I know you didn't support him, but the unprecedented scene in Chicago tonight must have made you feel good about your state.

the first black elected by popular vote to the u.s. senate was ed brooke (r-ma), 42 years ago.

Someone started a thread a few days ago asking what it is we feared with a Democratic victory. My fear is exactly those vulnerabilities you mention and the impact they will have on this nation. You can be sure that enemies of this nation will not be as inept at exploiting those vulnerabilities as the Republicans were.

I wholeheartedly agree with much of what you've said here. I voted for a 3rd party candidate.

However, as much as changing demographics were central to yesterday's election, so is changing political perspectives. The far right hardline conservative perspective will never take center stage again in American politics, in my opinion. Moderates in the Republican Party best tos the hard-liners out or relegate them to the background at best.

America is morphing towards a more democratic socialist perspective .. and as a democratic socialist, I couldn't be happier about it.

Don't need socialist politicians to win, the metamorphisis will come naturally .. especially as resources continue to shrink.

I have often said on this board that I feel both parties have been hijacked by the extremes within their respective constituents. For far too long this country's citizens have been subjected to the shrill cries of extremists ... so much so that sanity and common sense have gone right out the window.

I lean conservative so am leary of socialistic tendencies. That does not mean that those who need a hand (temporarily) should not get a helping hand; it means that there should not be a plethora of entitlements which make it all too easy to make reliance on government largess a way of life.

I agree and Maryland, which now has the only black governor, has also been an exceptional state for black emancipation .. however my brother .. it's hard to compete with Illinois's history.

you should let deval patrick know he isn't black any more, he'll probably be pretty upset. i know he's still governor. ;)

despite the troubles associated with busing in the 70's, massachusetts has a long history of support for equal rights for all.

Not only will Obama be the president, but the Democratic Party has solidified its control of government and will probably have 55 Senators and pick up another 14 seats in the House.

Elizabeth Dole is out and there isn't a single republican congressperson left in New England.

The Republican Party is at a crossroads and their only way forward is to catch up with America's changing demographics.

Just checked the map, seems the 3 remaining races not called all have the republican leading, so 54 may be all the Dems get for Senate seats.

So what happened to that SUper majority you all were claiming?

Stevens will get reelected and go to jail, which means the Republican Governor will replace him with ANOTHER Republican.

Anyone know if Alaska has a special election law or if Governor appointments serve out the remainder of the term?

Ohh ya Biden got reelected too, what party is the Governor in Delaware?
