Democrats Love Re-Writing History

The modern Democratic party was founded in 1828, after one of the most bitter Presidential campaigns in American history. Possibly the most bitter. Trump looks like a piker compared to the rhetoric which flew around in 1828.

The hatred and vitriol spewed toward Jackson's wife was so cruel it literally killed her.

Right out of the gate, the Democratic Party opposed monied interests and fought for the little guy, especially farmers.

Historic Fact:
"In the 26 major civil rights votes after 1933, a majority of Democrats opposed civil rights legislation in over 80 percent of the votes. By contrast, the Republican majority favored civil rights in over 96 percent of the votes."

Wrong.

And what's funny is you don't even know why.

Speaking of revisionism and about that "alleged quote":

Caller: ...the woman who gave a quote from LBJ; saying that the Democratic Party was going to have, quote, the "******* voting Democratic for the next 100 years...". ... That quote can be found all over the internet on Rightwing blogs, and it can be traced back to one book by a very Rightwing author, Ronald Kessler, and it's in a book called Inside the White House. And [the quote] has never been corroborated by anyone else. He is the only person who ever alleged that LBJ said that, that I can find.
TH: To say that trying to eliminate poverty in the United States, when the vast majority of people in poverty in the United States were [and are] White, was going to, somehow win the Democratic Party the Black vote for 200 years; that doesn't make any sense that LBJ would say such a thing... it's not how he spoke; it's not how he thought; and it certainly wasn't his motivation. But it has clearly brainwashed some young Conservatives. Thanks for sharing that with us.

Most conservatives are "classic" liberals in the sense we favor a political or social philosophy advocating the freedom of the individual, parliamentary systems of government, nonviolent modification of political, social, or economic institutions to assure unrestricted development in all spheres of human endeavor, and governmental guarantees of individual rights and civil liberties. Paradoxically, conservatives are true liberals!

The modern day "liberals" are mere socialists or communists for the most part.
Also wrong.

Most conservatives are authoritarian reactionaries frightened by change and dissent, who seek to compel conformity through force of law.

Wasn't the guy who ran against Lincoln defending the expansion of slavery into the north? He was a democrat who fought for slavery.
Wrong on both counts.

Stephen Douglas supported the Kansas-Nebraska Act which was compromise over a transcontinental railroad. The South wanted a southern route through New Orleans. The opposition wanted a central route through Chicago. As part of the compromise, the South conceded to letting the rail line go by the central route, and the opposition conceded that any new territories in the West were allowed to CHOOSE to be slave or free.

Douglas was not the pro-slavery Democratic candidate. In fact, the issue of slavery split the Democratic party. The pro-slavery Democrats hated Douglas so much, they put up a spoiler candidate, John C. Breckinridge.

ETA:

Lincoln received 39.8% of the vote. Douglas received 29.5%, and Breckinridge received 18.1%.

Imagine how America would have turned out if the Democrats had not split!

For more than 200 years, our party has led the fight for civil rights, health care, Social Security, workers' rights, and women's rights. We are the party of Barack Obama, John F. Kennedy, FDR, and the countless everyday Americans who work each day to build a more perfect union. Take a look at some of our accomplishments, and you'll see why we're proud to be Democrats.

Oh, I see why now.

It's a story FROM 2012!!

Talk about history!
Does that in any way invalidate the story? If democrats have not changed their actions, your complaint is hollow.

I could give them some slack if they said "for 200 years". But they said "for MORE than 200 years".

The Democratic party was founded in 1828. 184 years prior to when that statement was written in 2012.

One could make a case they have "led the fight" for workers' rights since their founding, since their whole founding purpose was to oppose monied special interests who were crushing the working class. The civil rights, healthcare, Social Security, and women's rights battles came along later.

Wasn't the guy who ran against Lincoln defending the expansion of slavery into the north? He was a democrat who fought for slavery.

Lincoln was our first Republican President ... something else seldom brought up. I wonder how many people are aware of that.
He also created the land grant colleges, invented the greenback, pushed the Inter-Continental railroad, and started the income tax.

LBJ was a racist from the get-go. This is indisputable. However, he wanted to be President, and at the time it was considered impossible for a Southerner to become President because the South was so racist.

LBJ realized the only path to the White House was through civil rights legislation. And so he slowly but surely became a civil rights champion.

Only a politician from the Deep South could have cracked the Southern bloc's opposition in the Senate. The South had an iron fillibuster grip on the Senate which had prevented all civil rights legislation from being passed for 82 years.

No Northerner was ever going to get the Southern bloc to relax its grip. Only a favorite son could do it. Senator Douglas, the leader of the Southern bloc, wanted a Southerner to be President so their interests could be protected. He chose LBJ as that person.

LBJ had to be seen as passing civil rights legislation in order to make him more palatable to the Northern delegates whose support was crucial for him to get the nomination. And so he managed to maneuver a voting rights bill in 1957 into law, despite Democrat Strom Thurmond's record fillibuster which has not been broken to this day.

And this started him down a path toward becoming a true blue civil rights champion. His transition is a fascinating story too long to tell here.

Strom Thurmond eventually became a Republican as the famous Southern Strategy converted the Democratic conservative South into the present day Republican conservative South.

That's simply an old Lee Atwater tactic

Accuse the other side of your worst liability, so when they call you out on your BS, it'll look like tit for tat.

Who has you parroting this today? Fox? Rush? Glenn Beck? Brietbart?

President Johnson orders pants from Joe Haggar.
Aug. 9, 1964

Listen

Operator: Go ahead sir

LBJ: Mr. Haggar?

JH: Yes this is Joe Haggar

LBJ: Joe, is your father the one that makes clothes?

JH: Yes sir - we're all together

LBJ: Uh huh. You all made me some real lightweight slacks, uh, that he just made up on his own and sent to me 3 or 4 months ago. There's a light brown and a light green, a rather soft green, a soft brown.

JH: Yes sir

LBJ: and they're real lightweight now and I need about six pairs for summer wear.

JH: yes sir

LBJ: I want a couple, maybe three of the light brown kind of a almost powder color like a powder on a ladies face. Then they were some green and some light pair, if you had a blue in that or a black, then I'd have one blue and one black. I need about six pairs to wear around in the evening when I come in from work

JH: yes sir

LBJ: I need...they're about a half a inch too tight in the waist.

JH: Do you recall sir the exact size, I just want to make sure we get them right for you

LBJ: No, I don't know - you all just guessed at 'em I think, some - wouldn't you the measurement there?

JH: we can find it for you

LBJ: well I can send you a pair. I want them half a inch larger in the waist than they were before except I want two or three inches of stuff left back in there so I can take them up. I vary ten or 15 pounds a month.

JH: alright sir

LBJ: So leave me at least two and a half, three inches in the back where I can let them out or take them up. And make these a half an inch bigger in the waist. And make the pockets at least an inch longer, my money, my knife, everything falls out - wait just a minute.

Operator: Would you hold on a minute please?

[conversation on hold for two minutes]

LBJ: Now the pockets, when you sit down, everything falls out, your money, your knife, everything, so I need at least another inch in the pockets. And another thing - the crotch, down where your nuts hang - is always a little too tight, so when you make them up, give me an inch that I can let out there, uh because they cut me, it's just like riding a wire fence. These are almost, these are the best I've had anywhere in the United States,

LBJ was a racist who pretended to be a liberal civil rights champion. But someone who is a poser has to maintain that image by doing the things a civil rights champion does. So in a weird twist of irony, the racist became the biggest civil rights champion in our history, just because he had to maintain his bogus persona.

On some days, I think of Trump the same way. The man is a far left limousine liberal who is pretending to be a conservative. But to maintain his fake persona, he is going to have to act like a true conservative to keep the rubes believing in him.

And like the negative photo image of LBJ, only a northern liberal like Trump pretending to be a conservative will be able to crack the conservative blockheads into passing legislation they would never support if it was sponsored by a liberal.

LBJ was very proud of his cock. He used to whip it out and show it off. Seriously.

He also used to have his staff come into the bathroom with him while he took a shit and dictated to them.

He was constantly scratching his crotch and picking at his ass in the Senate.

An extremely uncouth person.
