The Government is like the energizer bunny... they just keep going and going... At this rate they will be in control of every business in America by the end of Obama's first and only term...

Sure vacation is great, hell I wish everyday was a vacation but why does the government have to mandate it???? Could it be they are trying to win more votes for the next election????

Just another obstacle to running a profitable business in this country... Sad.

Interesting but don't all good companies do that now. I know any once represented by a Union have good vacation benefits. Trouble here is the scumbags who manage bad businesses will fire the employee at 99 days or engage in some other way to get around fair treatment. Look at the crap walmart does sometime.

I thought ALL employers paid vacation already? I guess not?

wonder why not?

You couldn't really have thought that, could you?

Tens of millions of working American don't have sick days, holidays, overtime, vacactions, health care, retirement or any of the amendities which most of us think are reasonable benefits.

Given that you were in retail, I'm somewhat surprised you weren't aware of that.

Retail is one of the worst offending industries in that respect.

Retail, has health care, holidays, 401k's, and vacations as benefits....with some there is even sick time.

Now, to what degree of those bennies is another story...

As example, when in Florida....we were given 2 weeks vacation after a year and 3 weeks after 10 years of working, 4 weeks after 20 years working.... we only had 5 paid holidays, and they contributed 50 cents on the dollar up to 5% of your income on your 401k...

But in Massachusetts, Retail/Wholesale paid 3 weeks vacation immediately, 4 weeks after 5 years, 10 paid holidays, 2 personal days and 6 paid sick days and matched the 401k dollar for dollar up to 5% of your salary...though the Corp I worked for was not unionized, they competed for good quality union workers, so they were always up to date on meeting their competitor's benefits.

I have only worked for Corporations in Retail/Wholesale....and the majority of time, in their corporate offices, not in the retail store itself...though i spent a lot of time in them merchandising...

My husband, for a short bit, did work for a small business owner who had 3 stores, as a merchandise manager and he had to go between those 3 stores all the time...She did pay vacation time, and Holiday pay that the State or Feds required (5 days), no 401k, but she did split the health insurance cost with her employees....

Otherwise, matthew and I both, have only worked for major Retail Corporations...the bennies were sufficient....
